Hi. If you are using the Meetup mobile app on your phone, look down a few lines below and tap the red-colored "Read more" to expand the description.
TAP THIS ---------
If you are using a computer or laptop/notebook, then you should be fine.
Okay, everybody should now be able to see the full description on their screen.
Reminder for everyone: If Meetup sends too many emails, then look at the bottom of their email and click Unsubscribe or Manage your settings or account page.
Recommended for anyone new to this group or volunteering for the first time:
Would anyone want to attend this event and help host?
Hosting isn't hard.
It involves being a point of contact in case others sign up and want to meet & volunteer together.
If your plans/availability change, and you can't attend anymore, that's fine, just let us know and maybe someone else can step up to host, but if not, it's okay and we can cancel this meetup.
Note: This event is unique and different, so reading the description is recommended.
Sometimes the flight is delayed, so check their Facebook page and event page for updates.
I try to spread the word about volunteer opportunities and raise awareness about non-profits/charities that do good work.
This event is from Honor Flight.
"Honor Flight Network is a non-profit organization created solely to honor America’s veterans for all their sacrifices."
"We transport our heroes to Washington, D.C. to visit and reflect at their memorials."
"Top priority is given to the senior veterans – World War II survivors, along with those other veterans who may be terminally ill."
Their video shows what their event is about:
Twice a year, veterans from Los Angeles, San Bernardino, and Orange Counties, fly to Washington D.C. for a special, weekend trip.
As veterans return on Sunday, everyone is invited to come celebrate their arrival near Baggage Claim for Southwest Airlines at Terminal 1.
"You’re invited to bring out your red, white and blue in signs, banners and anything else you’d use to show your spirit. Homecoming is a really big deal for these Vets! Come out and support these most humble of heroes. Look for an Honor Flight Southland volunteer in a red shirt for assistance."
Celebrate by cheering, applauding, shaking hands, whistling, etc.
Sometimes flights are delayed, so you can
1) Go to their website and scroll down and look for the return flight on Sunday, and you check online the flight status (estimated arrival time)
2) Check their main FB timeline - https://www.facebook.com/HonorFlightSouthland
or their FB event page - https://www.facebook.com/events/563779050826044
They sometimes post updates.
Totally understandable going to the airport is unappealing (traffic, parking $, crowded, etc.), but some might view this as a worthwhile event.
If anyone goes, hopefully you have a positive and enjoyable experience, and surely the veterans will appreciate the support from the community.
