This Meetup is past

3 people went

Our schedule is as follows:

**** 1:00 to 2:00 - Meet at the fountain by the Ruben H. Fleet Museum. Guest speakers will share their knowledge about Monsanto, GMOs, & more. I will provide my cell # so we can all find each other

**** 2:00 to 3:00 - March from fountain

Water – We will be marching, so please keep hydrated.

Banners/Signs – Do you have a message you'd like heard? Paint/draw it on a banner/sign and bring it!

Sunscreen and/or hats – Stay protected from the sun.

REQUEST: We are also asking everyone to wear RED shirts as a form of solidarity support towards this action.

Here is your rare chance to make a genuine impact concerning the most dangerous & global threat facing our environment, the health & quality of life of all living beings & the long-term health consequences on our future generations.

The March Against Monsanto is inspired by the love for freedom & democracy, the love for the earth, the soil, the seeds & literally every living being on our planet. It is a call to end the dictatorship over seeds, over life, over food and over our freedom. It is our deep respect for life on earth that makes all of us march against Monsanto as we stand in solidarity with everyone.

*Come join thousands of marchers as we proudly express & peacefully demonstrate our passion against GMOs/Monsanto & our basic human rights to a healthy non-toxic food supply. You dont need to be well versed on GMOs/Monsanto to show your support, as all you need to join the movement is a concern over the present & future of our entire food system. Its time the people stand proud & fight together to take back our health, our lives & our planet.

I included some interesting facts, articles & documentaries below;

-What are GMOs?

GMOs, or “genetically modified organisms,” are plants or animals created through the gene splicing techniques of biotechnology (also called genetic engineering, or GE). This experimental technology merges DNA from different species, creating unstable combinations of plant, animal, bacterial and viral genes that cannot occur in nature or in traditional crossbreeding. Virtually all commercial GMOs are engineered to withstand direct application of herbicide and/or to produce an insecticide. Despite biotech industry promises, none of the GMO traits currently on the market offer increased yield, drought tolerance, enhanced nutrition, or any other consumer benefit.

Meanwhile, a growing body of evidence connects GMOs with severe health problems, environmental damage and violation of farmers’ and consumers’ rights.

-Are GMOs safe?

Most developed nations do not consider GMOs to be safe. In 61 countries around the world, including Australia, Japan, & all of the countries in the European Union, there are significant restrictions or outright bans on the production and sale of GMOs. In the U.S., the government has approved GMOs based on studies conducted by the same corporations that created them & profit from their sale. Increasingly, Americans are taking matters into their own hands and choosing to opt out of the GMO experiment.

-What are the negative health effects of GMOs?

According to credible scientific research, it has been shown that those who eat genetically modified foods tend to see an increase in their allergic reactions to the types of foods they are already allergic too. By eating these genitically modified foods people also form allergies to foods which they were never allergic to before. Also, there is documented proof that since the introduction of GMOs rates of cancer, diabetes, auto-immune disorders & a slew of other diseases has increased dramatically.

-Bodily Toxicity Increases;

As individuals ingest more & more genetically modified foods & organisms into their body it has been shown that the bodies toxicity increases which leads to a ton of other potentially serious health problems.

-Negative Effects To Digestive System;

They are finding that GMO’s are a breeding ground for bacteria and virus’s and since the digestive system is where the body is exposed when ingesting these harmful foods, reversing the damaging effects of these foods is nearly impossible. In other cases on mice and rats, there is documented proof that the digestive system grows bigger for some strange reason.

-What are the impacts of GMOs on the environment?

Over 80% of all GMOs grown worldwide are engineered for herbicide tolerance. As a result, use of toxic herbicides like Roundup has increased 15 times since GMOs were introduced. GMO crops are also responsible for the emergence of “super weeds” and “super bugs:’ which can only be killed with ever more toxic poisons. GMOs are a direct extension of chemical agriculture, & are developed and sold by the world’s biggest chemical companies. In addition to this their pesticides are killing off the bees & butterflies we need to pollinate crops. This occurs because bees collect pollen from pesticide drenched plants and bring it back to their nest to store it as honey. This in turn directly affects their immune system & also targets their central nervous system.

-How do GMOs affect farmers?

Because GMOs are novel life forms, biotechnology companies have been able to obtain patents with which to restrict their use. As a result, the companies that make GMOs now have the power to sue farmers whose fields are contaminated with GMOs, even when it is the result of inevitable drift from neighboring fields. GMOs therefore pose a serious threat to farmer sovereignty & to the national food security of any country where they are grown, including the United States.

-How does GMO Awareness come in?

If people stop buying GMOs, companies will stop using them and farmers will stop growing them. We aim to make more and more people aware until a tipping point of consumer rejection happens and the market for GMOs collapses.

The ultimate solution, of course, is a consumer solution: Stop purchasing products that contain GMOs. You help shift the world in a more positive direction by shifting your own personal purchasing habits. And that’s something you can control right now, starting with the very next dollar you spend at the store.

Try to BUY ORGANIC, non-GMO products wherever possible. You’ll be changing the world one purchase at a time.
