Every time I run into a queer person in Eastlake, I get excited, like it's Christmas morning and I just got to open a present.
Sometimes it feels like we're all alone out here in Eastlake/ Chula Vista/ East County area. It's great to go to places like Hillcrest and North Park to feel connected to other LGBTQIA people, but it would be nice to form our own community out here, too.
This group will be about building an LGBTQIA community in the South/East area of San Diego County, whether that means hiking, wine or beer, music concerts, playdates (for us parents), or whatever makes us happy and connected. Let's gather and create a place that is fun, safe, supportive, and local to us. All are welcome.
On Saturday, May 25, there is a 5k Run / Walk to end youth homelessness happening at Liberty Station. We thought we could get a team together to support the event from our local Chula / Eastlake folks.
The event is being put on by an organization called Urban Street Angels, which helps homeless San Diego youth between 18 and 25 with things like emergency shelters, transitional housing, and job training. I admit I haven't done deep research into them, but they seem like a good organization with a good cause.
Here is the link to the page where you can sign up: https://handup.urbanstreetangels.org/campaign/5k-run-walk-to-end-youth-homelessness/c225689
You can register for $20 or create a fundraising page and register for free if you raise $100+.
The run is in the morning (registration is 8:30, race starts at 9am). We figured we could do brunch afterwards somewhere at Liberty Station for all who are interested.
