Note we regularly have 10-12 dancers/session, or more, as we prepare for major dance events, like the Playford Ball in Pasadena CA, or our annual PPZ dance this coming October. There is no need to bring along a partner; we exchange partners after each of the 6-8 dances we learn/practice in an evening.
If you identify with Elizabeth Bennett or Mr. Darcy and see yourself dancing with grace and elegance to the beautiful music of long ago, all you need are lessons from Marsden Macrae, and you will soon find yourself gliding across the dance floor with your partner in the most romantic of social settings. Though English country dance appeared in the 16th Century and entertained Queen Elizabeth I, it is still around today, because people love it so and because elegance and romance never are out of style.
Twice a year we have special English country dances - our 7th Annual Jane Austen Dance scheduled for May 21st 2016 and our 6th Annual Pride & Prejudice & Zombies Dance, which we have tentatively set for October 29, 2016 (venue for the PPZ dance has not been established, as the Charleston Heights Arts Center will be closed for renovation at this time).
The walk-in charge for our dance classes is $6 per session. Beginner dancers are welcome!
The Winchester Cultural Center is managed by the Clark County Parks & Recreation Department and is located at 3130 South Mcleod Drive. The nearest major cross-streets are Mcleod and East Desert Inn Road.
We will be in Room WC Room A.
The class starts at 6 pm, sharp, so please consider an arrival time of 5:45 pm, to allow time for paying at the front desk. Please also bring along a second set of soft soled shoes (not street shoes; sneakers are OK) for dancing, to protect our dance floor.
