Note we regularly have 10-12 dancers/session, or more, as we prepare for major dance events, like the Playford Ball in Pasadena CA, or our annual PPZ dance this coming October. There is no need to bring along a partner; we exchange partners after each of the 6-8 dances we learn/practice in an evening.
If you identify with Elizabeth Bennett or Mr. Darcy and see yourself dancing with grace and elegance to the beautiful music of long ago, all you need are lessons from Marsden Macrae, and you will soon find yourself gliding across the dance floor with your partner in the most romantic of social settings. Though English country dance appeared in the 16th Century and entertained Queen Elizabeth I, it is still around today, because people love it so and because elegance and romance never are out of style.
Twice a year we have special English country dances. Our 8th Annual Jane Austen Dance is scheduled for Saturday evening, June 3rd 2017 at the old Boulder City Water & Power Building. Our 7th Annual Pride & Prejudice & Zombies Dance, will be announced later in May, once we have more clarity when the Charleston Heights Arts Center reopens following renovation.
The walk-in charge for our dance classes is $7 per session, paid at the staff counter, as you enter. If you find that English Country Dance is simply something you simply MUST do each ad every week, you also have the option of registering for a month's worth of classes at a time, for a fee of $25. Beginner dancers are welcome!
The Winchester Cultural Center is managed by the Clark County Parks & Recreation Department and is located at 3130 South Mcleod Drive. The nearest major cross-streets are Mcleod and East Desert Inn Road.
The class starts at 6 pm, sharp, so please consider an arrival time of 5:45 pm, to allow time for paying at the front desk. Please also bring along a second set of soft soled shoes (not street shoes; sneakers are OK) for dancing, to protect our dance floor.
