The League of Women Voters of the City of New York is a nonpartisan organization whose purpose is to promote informed and active participation in government. We were founded in 1919 by Carrie Chapman Catt, and we're still going strong! The NYC League is currently working on issues related to voting rights, women's equality, the environment, and campaign finance reform.
Come join us at any of our meetings! We are always looking for new members (all genders are welcome).

The Voting Reform Initiative advocates for electoral reform, in order to fight voter suppression and make it easier for all citizens to vote.
We will be discussing our ongoing advocacy efforts with respect to elections and Covid-19 developments. Topics include updates on absentee voting and online voter registration efforts in Albany, as well as reporting back on our research on local laws, budgets, and regulations with regard to elections.
The League of Women Voters of the City of New York is a non-partisan organization whose purpose is to promote informed and active citizen participation in government. We are committed to empowering citizens with the meaningful information needed to make sound decisions for our democracy.
Do you have a policy issue about which you’re passionate? Do you want to get organized to lobby your legislators, attend rallies, or otherwise engage in direct action? The NYC chapter of the League is currently brainstorming new initiatives to extend our reach beyond the areas covered by our current committees. We are looking for volunteers to lead efforts on such topics as:
Public transit and MTA reform
• Single-payer healthcare
• Rehabilitation in criminal justice
• Equal pay for equal work
• Transgender discrimination
• Immigrant rights
• Gun control
• Police profiling
We are a grassroots organization, and depend on our members and volunteers to take action. If you’re interested in taking point on any of these issues, or have your own ideas for how to expand the League’s impact, we want to help you gather a group of like-minded people to collaborate with you.
