Weekly Wednesday Evening Ride Grab Bag ~ 20 Miles Out-and-Back

This ride will continue year round as weather permits. All routes are approximately 20 miles in length and our pace will be in the 13 mph range, give-or-take. The route taken will depend upon trail conditions and the types of bikes present.  For your safety as well as that of those around you, please come equipped with front and back lights.

Route 1
This is our usual route and takes us down the full length of the North Shore Bike Path, an asphalt and crushed stone rail-to-trail from Mundelein to Lake Forest. If you're looking to expand your trail options, this is the trail to check out - it runs parallel to Route 176 and connects to the Des Plaines River and Middlefork Forest Preserve Trails, the Skokie Valley Bikeway, and ends at the Robert McClory Trail.

Bonus: This trail passes within feet of the local Dairy Dream - a nice treat during the summer months as we near the end of our ride.

This route accommodates all types of bikes - mountain, hybrid, and road, with care.

Route 2
As an alternative, we may take the North Shore Bike Path to the Des Plaines River Trail and then head north, up, through, and around Independence Grove in Libertyville. This is a nice scenic ride, especially at twilight and in the fall. Yes - we still pass the Dairy Dream on the way home!  :-)

This route is best suited for mountain and hybrid bikes but we have ridden road bikes and lived to tell the tale!

Route 3
If the North Shore Bike Path is mucky and not conducive to riding, we will head west on Hawley Street through Mundelein and catch the Prairie Crossing Bike Path at Midlothian Road, heading north to the Rollins Savanna in Grayslake. This route is completely paved and will accommodate any type of bike.

On Tuesday evening, I will email my cell phone number to all those who have RSVPed "Yes" by that time - if you are not present AND have not contacted me by 6 pm on Wednesday, I will assume you are not coming. As always, if you RSVP "Yes" but your plans change, please kindly update your RSVP to "No" on the Meetup site before the scheduled ride time.

We will meet in the northeast parking lot of Carmel CHS (turn off of Route 176 onto Carmel Parkway - first parking lot on your left). Please arrive a few minutes early so you are ready to ride by 6 pm.
