What we're about

We are an Afternoon Meetup Group. Please do not join if you cannot attend afternoons on Chicago's North Side. Our groups meet weekly to play Canasta for fun and to socialize. We can help you learn Canasta, but cannot teach people who have no card playing experience. To join this group, you must have experience playing a card game like Rummy, Hearts, Spades, Bridge, etc. We welcome experienced canasta players to join. We primarily play Classic Canasta and may mix it up from week to week depending on what members would like! We play partners and 4 players to a table. If you are at a table that is short a player, you may be asked to play two hands at the same time until someone shows up to take over the hand!

Our Afternoon Group plays a monthly rotation at several restaurants:

First Tuesday: Nookies Edgewater at Bryn Mawr and Winthrop

Second Tuesday: Stella's Diner on North Broadway at Barry

Third Tuesday: Julius Meinl on Southport at Addison

Fourth Tuesday: Panera Bread on Division and Clybourn

Our Evening Group is seeking an organizer!

We will be collecting the $1 meetup fee after the first meeting you attend and it helps to offset the cost of listing on Meetup. We ask as a courtesy to our venues that you order something -- even if it's just a coffee -- while we use their space. We appreciate your advance RSVP and if you suddenly cannot attend, please change your attendance to "not attending". Because of membership limitations, repeated no shows will be asked to leave the group.

We ask members to be considerate of one another and their beliefs/sensitivities. Not everyone is cut from the same cloth, and our group is for fun, not competition.
