Back to (lambda) school

Summer laziness is over, it is time to restart our regular Prague Lambda meetups :)

So what have you been up to during the summer? What have you read or coded? What would you like to hear or present during the session?

I completed my study of two books - Okasaki's Purely functional datastructures and Hoare's Communicating Sequential Processes. First book is listed in Clojure Bookshelf, the second one was a great inspiration for currrent development of Clojure's core.async library. Both could make an great lighting talk and start some interesting discussions.

What I would like to hear are some high voted topics in our poll. For example testing or web frameworks. Anybody tried Simulant, played with Pedestal.io or used ClojureScript with AngularJS?

Last but not least, there is a EuroClojure conference in Berlin, just one week before the meetup. If you visit Berlin, you can prepare a summary for next Prague Lambda meetup.

Guys, great talks even though there were definitely not lightning. It does not let me RSVP anymore but +1.

Here is a link about the TED talk about city architecture that I briefly mentioned yesterday. http://www.ted.com/talks/kent_larson_brilliant_designs_to_fit_more_people_in_every_city.html

Marian. Can you post the page for core.async where is the 1000 thousand processes?

I was at Jugoslávských partyzánů 3, Prague at 7pm. Receptionist told me that noone was there and that I can go to third floor (Inovacentrum) to see for myself. Nobody was there indeed. Can anyone tell me what I did wrong?

Ok thanks. That location Inovacentrum confused me (I was basically there). See you next time.

Short reminder about our meetup. The program consist of 3-4 short lighting talks prepared for us by us. We have one week left. Let's agree on the topic and prepare our talks over the weekend.

We discussed the meetup topic with Kamil on our way back from EuroClojure. Our proposal is: Parallel and asynchronous computations. Lighting talk brainstorming:

    1) core.reducers
Listen to Rich Hickey's talk, read his blogpost. Show us some parallel magic. Implement your own reducing function.

    2) Communicating Sequential Processes - a book summary
A book by Tony Hoare. The theory behind Go and core.async. 3) core.async - under the hood
Watch a video "Deep walking macros" by Timothy Baldridge about implementation of go macro in core.async

    4) Recent additions to core.async
New function and macros allow easy channel combination in FRP style (map, take, pipe, split, reduce, tap, mix, pub, ...)

    5) Report from EuroClojure (Kamil, Michal?)

I can pickup any topic from 1-5. What about you?

I will prepare a short talk abou CSP. Gentlemen, there are still 1-2 slots available! Who wants to dive into core.reducers or core.async implementation?

      October 19, 2013

    • Marian S.

I have been playing a little with ClojureScript & core.async lately (both in a browser and node.js + heroku) so I might be able to prepare some hands on hacking session or just quick report about my experience.

Unfortunately I don't know much about core.async internals yet. :) (although I have seen "Deep walking macros" video few days ago).
