Longer description: Description
A leisurely walk following the Sefton coastal path from Freshfield to Crosby beach to look at the Anthony Gormley statues called Another Place. Depending on the tide times, we will either walk down to Crosby and catch the train back or vice versa.
Take the M6 to J26, where you should join the M58 and head towards Liverpool. At the end of the M58 continue forward on to the A59 then bear right onto the A5036 (signposted Bootle / All Docks). Keep in the right hand lanes and continue forward on to the A5036. At the traffic signals turn right on to the A5207 signposted Formby / Sefton. Follow this road until the junction with the A565, where you take a right turn on to the A565 signposted Southport. This eventually becomes dual carriageway Follow the dual carriageway across a roundabout, then through a set of traffic lights (Tesco superstore on right hand side). At the next roundabout take the first exit onto the B5424 (Southport Rd). Southport Road continues into Ryegound Lane, where you should then head across a roundabout onto Piercefield Road, leading into Old Town Lane. Turn right on to Freshfield Road which leads to the station. There should be ample on street parking. We will meet outside Freshfield station.
You can chance traffic going through Southport towards Formby (A565 from Preston). There is also the A570 and A59 around Ormskirk. In the case of Ormskirk I would recommend taking the A59 to the B5195, Downholland and Formby (it will lead you out at Tesco, Formby, where you would turn right onto the A565 and follow directions as above.
