What we're about

This group will bring together both aspiring and seasoned photographers who have a passion for the beauty of the natural world and would enjoy participating in scheduled outings at a variety of locations in upstate New York and surrounding areas. The idea is to identify locations to shoot together as a group. This may involve some hiking into areas at very early hours in the morning (before dawn) or later in the day near sunset. Participants will then be encouraged to upload their images for sharing and constructive criticism. This is a great way to learn and grow as a photographer. Photographs should be uploaded for sharing and constructive criticism at the Facebook page: "Landscape Photographers on Location".

This group is for photographers of all skill levels. In addition to your camera please bring any extra lenses, filters, tripod or other equipment you may need. iPhone photographers should feel free to join. We will often be walking at least a short distance (sometimes longer) so having a way to carry your gear in a backpack will most likely be necessary.

Wolf Creek Falls Preserve Photography Outing

Wolf Creek Falls Preserve Parking Lot

Join us for a local photography outing. Wolf Creek Falls Preserve, opened in 2007, consists of 135 acres in the Town of Knox, and was a gift of Steve Brown, a retired SUNY professor. This gorgeous parcel, which is open for public hiking, contains streams and waterfalls, a wetland, and numerous old stone walls. Here is a link for more information: http://www.hilltowns.org/wolf-creek-falls-preserve.html This is a 2.4 mile hike and is rated as an easy hike. Participants should be prepared for muddy conditions and also have some sort of tick repellent. There are 2 streams that have Cascades and waterfalls, and are a must see for everyone. We will meet at the Market 32 parking lot in route 20 mall (intersection of rt 155 and 20 in Guilderland). We will be parked farthest away from the store near route 20. We will need to carpool as parking is limited. For those who are interested we can go to lunch after.

Washington Park Tulip (before the Tulip Festival)

Washington Park

This is an annual favorite photography outing for me. I go a couple days before the Tulip festival so I can get some shots without too many people around. I hope you will join me this year. We will meet at the King Memorial statue and fountain in the center of the tulip beds at 6:00. For those interested, we will have drinks/food at the Point on madison avenue afterward. https://www.thepointalbany.com

Dawn Photoshoot at The Pinnacle in Lake George

156 Edgecomb Pond Rd

This will be a very early sunrise photoshoot at The Pinnacle overlooking Lake George. The first light that day will be a 5:00. That means we need to arrive by 4:30 in order to be at the spot in time. There is a short .75 mile hike that is somewhat steep. since it will be dark please wear headlamps or bring flashlight . People should dress warm in layers as it will be dark and possibly cold in early morning. The views from The Pinnacle are amazing and the view is to the East so the sunrise could be spectacular. We will meet at the Exit 9 Park and Ride in Clifton park at 3:30 am. If I do not hear from you please note that we will not wait for latecomers. After our shoot we can go to breakfast in Bolton Landing and if anyone is interested we may shoot some more photos in Bolton Landing. https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/new-york/the-pinnacle--3

Sleeping beauty wildflower photography hike

I-87 Exit 9 Park & Ride at Fire Road

This will be a moderate to slow paced hike from the trailhead to Sleeping Beauty to the summit and back. Total round trip is 6.8 miles. It is approximately 1038' of elevation change. This is a lovely hike that I have done at least 30 times over the past 25 years. I have frequently seen pink lady slippers, trout lily, bunchberry, and many other wildflowers during this part of the Spring. https://www.adk.org/sleeping-beauty/ We will meet at 9:00 at the Exit 9 park and ride and carpool to the trailhead. Please bring bug repellant as black flies could be out and we must be cautious about ticks. Pack a lunch for the summit. Please wear hiking boots and bring rain gear just in case...this is the adirondacks!
