This is a weekend trip to summit a couple peaks in Joshua Tree National Park- Spectre Peak in the north and Eagle Mountain in the south. Both summits have over 2000' of prominence and are on the Sierra Club's Desert Peaks Section list. Near Spectre Peak are a couple of optional bonus peaks we may choose to attempt.
The plan is to depart Friday evening, camp at the Spectre trailhead, summit Spectre on Saturday, climb Eagle on Sunday, and return. Given Eagle is a relatively easy hike (2200' of gain, 11 miles), I anticipate returning to Vegas sometime around 7 pm (post DST change).
Total Distance: 26 miles round trip
Total Elevation Gain: 5,500'
Altitude: 1,700' -5,350'
Terrain Description: All off trail, mostly class 1-2 with some class 3. Bonus peak may involve class 4
Approximate Hiking Time: 18 hours
