What we're about

Want to go hiking near Boston and not wake up at the crack of dawn? This group is for you. We'll be doing some great hikes in the Boston area once or twice a month with reasonable meeting times so that we can all enjoy the outdoors without losing too much shut-eye or spending too much time in the car.

Just please keep in mind that while most of our hikes are fairly moderate, hiking comes with risk. We are not trained hike leaders and do not usually scout hike locations in advance. You are responsible for your own safety on our hikes, which includes only signing up for hikes that are within your physical abilities, dressing appropriately, and taking water, food, and medical supplies that may be required, staying on the marked trail within sight of the group, and considering the weather conditions before you head out. Organizers and members shall not be liable for any injuries, loss or damage to persons or property, direct or consequential, arising out of any aspect of events or activities.

FAQ:

1) I'm over 45 or under 25 - can I still join?

Since the purpose of this group is social as well as exercise, this group was designed for people from age 25 to 45 who live in or near Boston. However, we do not decline any members based on age.

2) What fitness level do I need to have to join this group?

As indicated above, you are responsible for your own safety on our hikes. You know your physical abilities and limitations best. Please use your discretion when signing up for meetup events considering your fitness and experience. The mileage will be included to the extent possible on each event.

3) Can I come even if the meetup event is full? What is your cancellation policy?

The event is intended for those who RSVP and are shown as attending. Please be considerate and only RSVP if you think you will be able to attend and if your plans change, modify your RSVP as soon as possible, preferably at least 12 hours in advance. Members may be dropped from meetup events for repeated no shows without cancelling in advance and without an explanation.

4) Will we hike even if it rains/snows/etc?

Before each hike, we will be monitoring the weather conditions. Please monitor your email before you head out. If there is a very strong chance of rain or snow or the trail conditions are likely to be hazardous, the hike may be postponed.

5) Can I bring my dog?

No. The hikes in this meetup are not intended for dogs. That is for the comfort of all hikers. Many places do not allow dogs. Additionally, not allowing pets facilitates carpooling and social events after the hikes.

6) Why do your hikes charge a fee? How is the money used?

We have found that charging a nominal fee encourages people to RSVP only if they really intend to come, reducing no-shows and last minute cancelations, a benefit to the whole group. Proceeds are used to offset the $180 fee meetup charges organizers per year.
