Fatherland - Robert Harris

PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF VENUE FOR THIS MONTH - THANKS

October’s book is ‘Fatherland’ by Robert Harris. The discussion will be chaired by Emma who successfully nominated despite not actually being present.  Thanks to Neil who brilliantly guided us through the discussion on 'Stoner' in September.

As always, we’ll meet from 7:30 onwards and then move upstairs to start the discussion at 8pm.

Alternatively, send your nominations to the Mailing List :
[masked] with a brief overview and why you think it
would make a good book for us to discuss.

When you nominate the book you will then be invited to chair the meeting (very
informal) .... or provide some questions that we can use to get the discussion
going.

Great discussion, thanks Emma. Helped me question the book more than when I'd originally just read it as a "holiday" book. Lovely to meet new members and to catch up with everyone x

Sorry, I am unable to attend - family emergency. Enjoyed reading the book, decent thriller although prefer Le Carre. A bit sketchy as to how Germany won the war but then I suppose this isn't the main focus. I think the book relies on strong story rather than strong writing but that may be the case with a lot of thrillers. Hope to make the next meeting.

Apologies. I read the book years ago and intended to read it again, but I'm now out of time and realise I can't remember much at all!

Thanks for letting us know change of venue Claire. I have really enjoyed reading this book, what a page turner! Very much looking forward to tomorrow's night discussion. It's been a good distraction my preparations for the Brum half marathon. I am running the Great Birmingham Run on 20th October and raising money for Birmingham Children's Hospital, if anyone would like to sponsor me, please visit my JustGiving page. I also have a paper form. http://www.justgiving.com/Mala-Mistrybrumrun

    See you all tomorrow! :)

Hello! I'm a newbie to the group! Do we have to reserve places or pay? Also how many people usually turn up? Its my first book club ever and I've wanted to read this book for a while so I am quite excited!!

Hi Kim, welcome to the group. All you have to do is RSVP that you're attending and then turn up on the night. People tend to meet from 7.30 onwards in the ground floor bar and then move upstairs for the discussion at 8. If you can't spot some people who look like a book group or have a copy of the book ask the bar staff. The fee is collected prior to the discussion. See you on the 8th
