Web Development Firehose Learning Weekend

Start with nothing, learn what you need, leave with a fully functional application.

One Intense Weekend:

Friday Night (6:30PM-10PM): Software Install Night. We help you get the tools you'll use for the rest of the weekend up and running on your machine.

Saturday (9AM-11PM): Get the Web Development low-down. Create your initial project. Write code all day long together with instructors leading the class.

Sunday (9AM-5PM): Write more code, finalize features, wrap up changes. Get application live. Show it to the world.

Sunday (5PM): Afterparty. Drink Beer and celebrate with us.

Whenever I have done an event that attempts to "cram" knowledge in such a small time window, generally the efforts fall short and I leave feeling confused and let down. With Ken and Marco, however, I cannot say enough good things. From Friday night software installs through Sunday afternoon app_from_scratch, this is well worth the time and money invested.

    Best of luck guys!

Talk about going from "I can't" to "I can!" in a few short hours. This was an amazing experience. I've been exposed to all of the we used technologies in Firehose Weekend, yet was never quite able to "put it all together" before. Everything makes sense now. I think I'll be redoing my personal resume website in Ruby/Rails very soon.

Hi, I'll be attending the weekend as a guest of Tim Bickerton and had a very important question. Will there be coffee and/or snacks? I know I'll need a giant carafe to get through the weekend :). Very excited and can't wait to learn!

    Thanks!

Great question! Someone just told me that if we need to get coffee Zeke's coffee is right behind Thrill Mill on Penn (and they can provide coffee carafes) http://zekescoffeepgh...

Oh, awesome. I always get their beans when they bring them to the Monroeville Farmer's Market. Good stuff.

Hello. I see that there are still some openings for this program. Was there a deadline, or could I still attend? Thanks!

    November 16, 2013

    • Marco M.

      Hi Sean,

Yup, you can still attend :)

Hope to see you in class!

Aloha from our FirehoseWeekend at Harvard Business School,

I am very interested in this workshop/hackathon. It would be good to know an outline (front-end and back-end technologies/frameworks that you will be covering) in this workshop.

I have a good understanding of the basics of HTML5 and CSS3 but not that familiar with other backend technologies and version control.
Is it OK to be a newbie for some or most of the technologies you mentioned?

      November 8, 2013

    • Marco M.

      Hi Pranav,

Nope, you don't have to know or understand all these technologies, since we'll be covering and using them extensively throughout the weekend.

Since you already know HTML/CSS I think you might be a bit ahead of the game :)

Let me know if you have any more questions.

      Aloha,
      Marco
