What we're about

Do you want to learn Mah Jongg, Canasta, Bridge, Hearts or Spades? Or perhaps, you just want to get better at them. These are all classic social games. They take skill to play and require a group. Yet, it can be difficult to find a set of friends to play with. Most established groups want experienced players only.

Here's your chance to learn in a fun and friendly way with an experienced instructor. I love to play these games and enjoy teaching others. Please note that I don't offer any Role Playing Games (RPG).

It is free to join this meetup group, but I offer courses for a modest fee. You pay that fee when you sign up for a course via the Meetup app. You can also contact me directly to use Zelle for a bank transfer. I then have to add you to the course manually.

Courses typically consist of 3 consecutive weekly classes. See posted events for details. Sign up for the first course date and I will add you to the other classes that go along with it. I have all of the materials needed to play.

Occasionally, I will also post supervised play events for those that already know how to play and just want to get better at it. Perhaps you need just a refresher. These are offered for a minimal fee. as I hope to help you find others to get your own regular groups scheduled.

For Mah Jongg, you will learn the style of play sanctioned by the National Mah Jongg League (American Mah Jongg). Should you find that you become a regular player, then someday you may want to invest in getting a card for yourself and maybe even a set of tiles.

For Canasta, there are generally two forms of Canasta -- Classic and Modern (some call the latter, American). I suggest that you start with Classic Canasta. It is easier to learn Modern Canasta that way. I do reserve the right to ask you to step out of the Modern Canasta course if you really just aren't ready for it.

For Hearts, Spades and Bridge, these are card games, known as Trick games. I teach these with Hearts and Spades in the first course. Bridge is the second course. It is easier to learn Bridge if you are already familiar with Hearts and Spades. I do reserve the right to ask you to step out of the Bridge course if you really just aren't ready for it.

All of these games are traditionally played with a group of 4 players. Most of them have rule variations to play with more or fewer players. Courses require a minimum of 3 students to take place and are limited to a maximum of 4 or 5 students.

Join us to learn to play and to find others to play with. Please help spread the word about this group. Thanks! Sally

You need bring nothing, but a friendly attitude and a desire to learn! Sign up and pay for this event. I will add you to the other two sessions. Sorry, but no refund if you miss a class. If you don't want to pay through MeetUp, contact me and you can pay me through Zelle as a bank transfer. I will accept $60 through Zelle. I will then have to add you manually to this event.
