Galvanize Datathon

Online event

**You must register at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/galvanize-datathon-tickets-160873437783 in order to attend this datathon**

Event Description:
Welcome to the Galvanize Datathon! This weeklong event offers 2 different opportunities for participants to join.
Each track is designed to facilitate attendees at their current stage in learning, and give them opportunities to learn new and relevant skills and technologies.

Tracks:
Beginner - (Beginner, less than 6 months of experience)
Ex. New Python Programmers & Analysts

Advanced - (more than 6 months of experience, working data scientists, and Galvanize DSI Alumni)
Ex. Galvanize Graduates & Data Professionals

This event was organized by Galvanize in cooperation with our partners at Rapids AI, Tigergraph, and Graphistry. Both tracks will be performing analyses on data from the same source: New York State energy reports. Over the course of the last year, there has been significant changes in the load on New York energy. These loads are recorded by the state at a cadence of every 5 minutes. Participants in this datathon will utilize a sampled data set from this source dataset. The beginner track will learn how to use the various beginner level skills needed for the Data Science Immersive within the context of the dataset, and the advanced track will be given a machine learning challenge using a similar dataset.
Join us for this fantastic experience, and see how quickly your data science skills level up!

**You must register at https://www.eventbrite.com/e/galvanize-datathon-tickets-160873437783 in order to attend**

Beginner Track:
Are you new to Python coding? Are you new to performing statistical analyses with code? Then this track is for you!
The beginner track is designed to rapidly build skills that will translate to the data science immersive at Galvanize. These include but aren’t limited to:
- Basic python coding: objects, variables, data structures, functional programing, and using libraries
- Libraries: We will introduce a number of libraries in python that you need to know in order to become a data scientist
- Real world data: these tasks have been created and organized around real data! Completing this Datathon will provide invaluable experience for using data science skills in business or research scenarios

Advanced Track:
Advanced track participants will be asked to perform a time-series forecast and analysis using data collected by New York State's Independent System's Operator, which coordinates, controls, and monitors the operation of the electrical power system.
The advanced track was designed with graduates of our program and working data scientists in mind. We aim to rapidly introduce a suite of different technologies and platforms that can facilitate and accelerate your data science workflow. In the form of a series of workshops and prepared materials, advanced track attendees will be given a premiere opportunity to learn powerful technologies from our incredible partners:
Rapids AI: The RAPIDS data science framework includes a collection of libraries for executing end-to-end data science pipelines completely in the GPU. It is designed to have a familiar look and feel to data scientists working in Python.
Tigergraph: Through its Native Parallel Graph™ technology, the TigerGraph™ graph platform represents what’s next in the graph database evolution: a complete, distributed, parallel graph computing platform supporting web-scale data analytics in real-time.
Graphistry: Investigate the relationships across your data with the first GPU-accelerated visual graph intelligence platform. Quickly explore from data science notebooks, share and automate workflows with your team, and create your own experiences with embedding APIs.

Duration:

About Your Instructor:

Connor Slagle

I am a data scientist with a fondness for biotechnology, with degrees in both chemical and environmental engineering. Recent advances in data science are revolutionizing all aspects of contemporary business, from product refinement to customer identification; In no field is this as evident (or as exciting) as in biotechnology.

I’m focused on leveraging these skills to improve targeted, non-invasive drug delivery in oncology. Additionally, I love spreading my understanding of machine learning concepts through evangelism at Galvanize.
