What we're about

Would you like to help others in your community who are struggling each day simply to have enough food to eat or to have a safe place to sleep for the night? If so, Lehigh Valley People Helping People Meetup welcomes you! As a bonus you will get to meet like minded people for possible friendship or relationships...

We volunteer one day each month (2-4 hours) in an organized activity helping our fellow community members who are less fortunate. All of the organization is taken care of by the group, you just show up and help out.

Common service projects may include preparing and donating meals or desserts to local food banks or rescue missions.
Volunteering at area rescue missions, food banks, soup kitchens, serving food, decorating dining facilities, providing instrumental music, organizing supplies, providing administrative assistance, etc. Join us for friendship, fellowship, and most importantly, to make a positive difference by helping others who are less fortunate.

T-A-C-O Fest @ Allentown Rescue Mission!

Allentown Rescue Mission

Based on many requests from group members we are going to have a Taco Fest. I was a bit worried we could get everyone to bring enough ingredients but I'll bite...let's do it! Here we go... We will make and bring our fully cooked food to be reheated in the heating ovens at the mission and served to the men in residence. September 2019 - March 2020 (due to my job schedule) we need a member to step up to organize our Meetups at ARM. You just need to coordinate a date with my contact at ARM, determine food items / menu for members to bring, respond to inquiries on our web-site, and attend the monthly event. I can post all of the information to our meetup site. ---------------------------------------FOOD------------------------------------------------------ THE MEN ARE COUNTING ON YOUR GREAT FOOD SO IF YOU SIGN UP MAKE SURE YOU BRING THE FOOD. :) If we have anyone who wants to make food and not attend, that is also very appreciated and the food can be dropped off at the ARM during the day on June 12th. Just let them know it is for our dinner. After the below items are filled there is always the option for others to donate cooked seasoned rice to feed 40-50 men. After signing up, please clearly indicate on our site which food person you will be below. (ex. Joan and be Person 3 and bring 12 lbs. taco meat). Please read and do not pick something that is already taken. Person 1: 40 soft tortillas & 3 lbs. sour cream Person 2: 40 soft tortillas & 3 lbs. sour cream Person 3: 12 lbs. taco meat Person 4: 12 lbs. taco meat Person 5: Enough diced tomatoes and shredded lettuce for 80 tacos Person 6: 7 lbs. of shredded sharp cheddar cheese. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Great-Value-Shredded-Sharp-Cheddar-Cheese-5-lb/130124754 https://www.walmart.com/ip/Great-Value-Finely-Shredded-Sharp-Cheddar-Cheese-32-Oz/42004037 Person 7: 24 individual desert items Person 8: 24 individual desert items Person 9: 3 – 106 oz. cans of corn. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Del-Monte-Golden-Sweet-Whole-Kernel-Corn-106-oz/10452863 -------------------------------------AGENDA----------------------------------------------------- 4 pm - 5 pm Bring our precooked food item and give to the ARM cook. Next, we assemble in a room the ARM provides us and enjoy hanging out and socializing. If desired by the ARM cooking staff that night we help set up the meal, etc. 5 pm - 6 pm Serving time...we take turns behind a cafeteria serving line. As residents filter through the line in a very organized manner, we fill plates with food and put them on top of the station for the men to put on their tray as they head to their dining room with ARM staff to enjoy dinner. Residents are very appreciative and well organized by the ARM staff. 6 pm Driving home with a great feeling and a smile on our collective faces and in our hearts! *** You do not need to attend to be part of this great event. If you cannot attend and are willing to make food to drop off at the ARM during the day on June 12th, that is also appreciated. Just message Mike H to let him know what you will bring. If you want to make and bring food but money is tight, send Mike H. a private message. Please no open toe shoes. Hair nets and aprons are provided by ARM staff. This is a really great event...hope you can make it...everyone who has done this MeetUp has really seemed to enjoy the experience. Sign up, come out, you will be glad you did! :) Mike :)
