Loved the meetup, asked around and never ran into anyone from this meetup. Had fun anyways.

UPDATE: Traffic is especially heavy tonight. GPS advises that we'll be 10 mins late if we left a few mins ago. So we are leaving 5 mins early. Apologies about the last minute change of plans. Hope to see you all at the Audobon Center.

I drive a Maroon-colored Honda Pilot with a gear basket mounted on the roof. See you all shortly.

Hey everyone... I am fighting a cold right now and it is probably best if I don't stand out in the cold weather tonight. Dave has graciously offered to take over as host. He will meet everyone at the carpool location @ 5:30PM. He will wait NO LONGER THAN 10 mins for everyone to arrive. Otherwise he will see you at the Audubon Center. Here is his number in case you can't find the group:[masked]-7032. Thanks!

I realize I did not read and do not have a ticket, although I am on the list to go. Please send your ticket with "Dave" who I also do not know and I will gladly reimburse you. Thanks. Jeffrey

Hi Jeffrey, there is no physical ticket, but I was able to transfer my ticket into your name. Your name will now be on the list. Have fun tonight!

    REMEMBER:

DO NOT bring regular flashlights....make sure they have a red or green filter on them (or get plastic wrap, color it red, and rubber band it over your flashlight). This helps preserve everyone's night vision!

    ALSO

Follow the directions they sent out, NOT what you get off a GPS, Google Maps, MapQuest, etc. I guarantee you WILL get lost!

    AND.........

Before heading into the park, stop at a gas station, McDonalds, etc and use the restroom! They had 1 porta-potty for 50+ people!

    ONE LAST THING.......

If you have to drop out, contact Rhonda [masked] or [masked]) because there is a WAITLIST to attend! (And If you're trying to find tickets, go to meetup look up the 4 groups that are going tomorrow and post of each one asking for someone's unwanted ticket)

I will have my cell, you can TRY texting me, but not sure how reception will be. [masked]-7296. Hope this helps answer questions!

So if plans change, contact her!!!!! When I went in the Spring it was supposed to be cloudy but will still saw plenty of neat stuff! And just a little bit of Astronomy news:
    Tonight … Moon and Mercury
Be sure to look not long after the sun goes down, in the sunset direction. If you miss the moon and Mercury tonight, keep watching! The waxing moon will move up past Venus in the days ahead.

I will not be able to go tomorrow as I need to get ready to go out of town on Friday am. Happy for someone to take my spot. I'm not concerned about getting my $8 back but not sure how to give someone my ticket bc I think it's tied to my credit card

I just got a message from Rhonda that they are at capacity! So if your plan's change and you can't go, post to see if someone wants to buy your ticket from you.

Because of the reschedule, I do not think the website has been updated. If you would still like to buy tickets contact Rhonda. Here is her info: call us back at[masked] or email our office manager Rhonda at [masked].

Also, last year they put out a basic map (because this place is hard to find). I just emailed her and asked if she still had it. If so, I will post it above. Also recommend carpooling as the parking lot is small, I know there are over 50 people going (from other sites), the 470 is the best way to get there, and this place is hard to spot in the dark!

    November 28

  • Anjuli

Last spring they had a basic map for the location of this event (because it is hard to find). I emailed Rhonda and asked if they still had this. If they do, will let Tamara know so she can post it.

Is it possible for ppl to still sign up at all?

Note: Because this event was postponed, I believe they have not updated their website to show the new date. If you are interested in purchasing a ticket, please call or email: Rhonda at [masked] OR[masked]-9530. Thanks!

    Part 1 of 3:
I did this in the Spring and it was AWESOME! They lugged a 12" telescope out there. They also had smaller telescopes as well. You could see the craters on the moon and mars, Saturn's rings and moon's, a galaxy, and a nebula.

It is THIS THURSDAY (Nov 17th from 6-8pm). You can now register online, http://www.denveraudubon.org/programs/local-field-trips/#November

THURSDAY AT NOON CHECK YOUR EMAIL...... that is when they usually make the determination if they are going to have the even or not (since it is supposed to snow) or go to the website where you registered to see if there is a date change.

    Part 2 of 3:
I know from experience this lot is HARD to find so leave with plenty of time. Taking the 470 is the best way!

DO NOT use Mapquest, Google Earth, or GPS. Admission:
    $5.00 - Kids 10-18 $8.00 - Adults

CHECK EMAIL THURSDAY AROUND NOON, to see if the event is cancelled or you can check the link you signed up on. Otherwise think of the money spent as a donation!

DO NOT bring regular flashlights....make sure they have a red or green filter on them (or get plastic wrap, color it red, and tape it over your flashlight). This helps preserve everyone's night vision!

This is cross posted with Living w Disabilities of Westminster, More Fun, Less Alcohol, and Something Besides Bars,; so there should be a lot of us there! Anjuli I will have my cell, I don't think there is much reception out there but you can try ***texting**** me at[masked]

    November 16

  • Anjuli

Also suggest, everyone in your car help pay for the cost of taking the 470 toll. It is the quickest and easiest route!

    November 16

  • Anjuli

THis place is almost impossible to find in the dark, so make sure you give yourself extra time. Also suggest dressing in layers, you will be cold at first. And if you have to go to the bathroom, stop at a McDonalds or somethiing first....they have 1 Porta Pottty.

CARPOOL LOCATION: Let's try to carpool as much as possible since the parking lot at the Nature Center is not very large. Carpool location is: County Line Park-n-Ride: 8340 South Valley Highway, Englewood, CO 80112. Meet us there @ 5:30PM. Thanks!!

    November 15

    • Ewelina

I would be interested in carpooling as well. Will anyone be going via Capitol Hill (south part)?

      November 16

    • Sarah Takeda L.

      I'll be there!

      November 16

  • Sweets

Sorry guys. We really wanted to meet everyone but unfortunately we can't make it. I guess maybe next time.

    November 16

  • Anjuli

CHECK YOUR EMAIL ON THURSDAY AFTERNOON!!!!!! They may cancel due to possible snow. If no email, then event is still on. I think they make their decision around noon.

    November 16

  • Anjuli

make sure you pre-register and pay your money ahead of time. Last time there was some little show that you were supposed to watch, but I blended in with the students and got more telescope time.

DO NOT bring a regular flashlight, make sure it is red or green or covered in red cyclophane! Also, people got annoyed with head lamps last time (destroyed night vision)

And find this place and parking in the dark is a pain, suggest try to arrive early. Open to carpooling.

Red Rocks Community College Astronomy Class puts it on

      November 12

    • Anjuli

there are astronomy teachers on hand to answer questions, and you can do the opposite of what I did and watch the actual film that I think discusses the constellations a little more (I blended in with the astronomy students and skipped that part)

      November 13

  • Laura H.

Looking forward to this event. Happy to drive. I live in cory merrill (east of wash park)

    November 13

  • Anjuli

does anyone want to carpool? I know from doing this in the Spring there is very little parking and it is hard to find in the dark!
