What we're about

This group is for anyone who's interested in trying out an Aikido class! It's considered a soft traditional Japanese martial art that has roots in samurai sword arts and empty handed techniques. It stresses harmony and peaceful conflict resolution, suitable for men and women of all ages.

It helps with posture, flexibility, cardio, balance, situational awareness, stability--especially training to fall without getting hurt. The techniques which include wrist locks and joint manipulation are practiced with one another in a cooperative environment in order to understand and improve body mechanics.

For those interested in Japanese culture, Aikido also places emphasis on traditions and customs, as well as history. It is one of the few martial arts that also incorporate sword-work and short-staff into its curriculum.

Our dojo members come from all walks of life, and we become close enough to call each other family. We love meeting new people and hope you will too!

Feel free to come by for 2 free classes! No appointment necessary. Class schedule is located here. (http://www.liaikikai.com/schedule/)

Fun Aikido Meetup (It's like yoga, but aerobic!)

15 Clinton Ave

Since it seems Saturdays are good for most people, thought I'd set one up two weeks from now. Just sweatpants and a shirt that has sleeves covering the elbows is fine! Aikido is basically aerobic yoga with a partner, so no prior martial arts experience necessary! There's no cost for this meetup so don't worry about that. Hmmm, what else... Oh, but if you have prior MA experience, you might want to stay for the 2nd class too--it's where we play and experiment with other martial arts styles (many of our teaching staff are also ranked in Japanese Jujitsu, Brazilian Jujitsu, Karate, Kung-fu, Boxing, TKD, Muay Thai etc.) I'll be here about half an hour before. Feel free to bring your little ones if you have no one to babysit--there's always one or two little ones running around with us. Feel free to ping me if you have any questions!
