Happy Hour at Schlafly's - great music later!

Let’s go to happy hour and maybe stay around for some music later. Schlafly’s is always a good spot. Since we never know if it is going to be snowing or 70, we will plan to meet on the patio if nice and in the bar if not. Food is available.

Starting a little later (around 8) Miss Jubilee will have her “B” jam session with other blues, big band, jazzy, players which is always good. If you have never heard them play or want to meet some other Meetuper’s in a relaxed atmosphere, this event is for you. There will be plenty of time to mingle before the music and the band is great.

RSVP and let us know you are coming.

Could only stop by briefly but was so glad I did (especially after such a long hiatus).

If it were only a bit warmer where we could have sat outside and if they ever decided the benefits of hiring a server, it would have been a great night. Great group that attended including some new faces and Miss Jubilee was excellent. It was still a fun time even with place being packed.

The music was great, as always, and we always have a great group of people, however the service left a lot to be desired!

Good people in our group as usual. Had to stand too much though. Hard to order anything. Would have liked a sit down dinner. Music was great but dancing became dominated by three young girls and their partners. After they started nobody else could dance.

Good to know the family connection, but better discussed over a few beers.

I have responded to one of you privately but guess this needs to be aired. While I respect others opinions and their right to voice them, I ask politely to keep the actual political banter out of the comments section for a particular event. There is a "discussions" section of the Boomer site that is meant for just that purpose. It surprises me that board is not lit up often. It offers the same opportunity to voice anything or start a discussion about anything. What also makes it appealing is that comments made don't automatically go out to all members but just those that want to join in. The comments section is more to ask questions, look for carpools, or get info about the event itself. I certainly hope you can understand. This was set up to be a simple happy hour. Sometimes comments made can actually play in to a members decision making on whether to come or not. No one wants to go to a "happy" hour if bickering has already started before the event happens. Thanks for understanding

When did we liberals start applying guilt by association. Neither Democrats nor Republicans nor any other political entity should be pigeonholed as to a particular belief. That is a discreet form of Discrimination which can lead to a slippery slope. Both the historical Inquisition and the Holocaust were good examples of that. I certainly am over simplifying this but a proper discourse would take weeks. I say these things knowing that the best I can ever know is LEGITIMATE RELATIVE TRUTH. I'll drink to that. See you at the Bottleworks. (I hope)

Phyllis is a Schlafly by marriage. Tom Schlafly of Schlafly Beer is her nephew (her husband's brother's son). In a St Louis Mag 2007 interview, Tom Schlafly says he is a Democrat. He sees his aunt about two times a year at family functions, but because of their different viewpoints, they have agreed to a moratorium at family events and won't discuss politics at such get-togethers. In my opinion, it doesn't seem fair to blame him for his idiotic aunt's views.

I beg to differ. She is related to Tom and recently brought a lawsuit against him regarding the Schlafly name and a trademark dispute. Still protesting against the Schlafly name.

There is no connection between Phyllis Schlafly and Schlafy Bottleworks. The brewery was founded by Tom Schlafly and his business and family have been charitable leaders in the community for years.

I have another event that day, but I will try to make the 6:00 start time.

I never would attend any event at a place that is named Schlafly. Phyllis Schlafly led the fight and was successful in defeating the Equal Rights Amendment for Women. She is still alive and is proud she brought about the defeat of women.
