Our GUEST SPEAKER for this month’s meeting is Shannon L. Taylor; Henrico County Commonwealth's Attorney.

Born and raised in Charlottesville, she received her BA in International relations at UVA in 1989. Shannon went on to receive her JD from the T.C. Williams School of Law at U. of Richmond in 1995.
After graduating from law school, she went to work for the Richmond City Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office where she experienced virtually all areas of criminal law. While there, her aggressive prosecutorial style caused the Commonwealth's Attorney to assign her twice as the Special Assistant US Attorney to the US Attorney’s Office in Richmond. As a state prosecutor, she also interacted with the community, working with neighborhoods and community associations. After leaving the Richmond City Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office, Shannon was the Special Counsel for the Richmond Multi-Jurisdictional Grand Jury, giving her even more prosecutorial experience.

Shannon was the senior trial attorney with the law firm of Boone Beale from 2008 through December 2011.

On November 8, 2011, Shannon was elected the first female Commonwealth’s Attorney for Henrico County. She took office on January 1, 2012 and was re-elected for her second term on November 3, 2015. She continues to be committed to mental health, substance abuse and criminal justice reform, while aggressively prosecuting violent offenders to Keep Henrico Safe.
