I agree with you! We received more than value for money. Kudos to Markus and Alex who planned and executed a wonderful trip

    1 · August 27, 2013

Thank You, Heather!! When Markus and I first got together about this trip way back in March we decided to give everyone great value and more than just a run of the mill trip. As Markus said above, it's nice to know that people are recognizing what went into it. I'm really pleased that you were on our first excursion!!

      August 28, 2013

    • Debra K

Alex had mentioned earlier that the free time on Sunday was a stroke of genius. It was so wonderful to be able to spend some time with my friend, who just happens to live in Kingston. I don't get to see her too often, and that was so special to me. Thank you, Markus!

      August 28, 2013

  • Terri

Terri and I thought for the money we paid everything more than exceeded our expectations. We doubt there is a deal like that out there anywhere and remember people, there was a 13% HST included in the price. If people want first class, they better be prepared to pay first class and that would have been a heck of a lot more than was charged. And that is the name of that tune, " Real Value for Money"

    3 · August 27, 2013

Thanks Alex and Markus for a fabulous weekend. The trip was so well organized and Markus you really went above and beyond staying up all night baking those croissants. Really from the very beginning greeting us at 8a with croissants and coffee at the bus, til the end entertaining us on the bus ride home with a movie and snacks you both paid attention to every detail and made this trip a success. Enjoyed the beach and picnic lunch with a wide variety of desserts ( my fav the brownies and strawberries . The band was amazing and I had so much fun dancing. Everything was amazing!

In the travel business you must rely on other people to do their job well, in order for a trip to be successful. I tried my best to put together an interesting list of events and services. I believe that we delivered what we promised. I am sorry if not everyone was happy with the dinner. I talked to many participants and received lots of positive feedback. Keep in mind all the things that were included (for $65) in this cruise: 3-hour sunset cruise, 3-course meal, coffee, live band, etc. A regular 3-hour cruise can easily cost $35 - $40. So, for an extra $25-they provided all of these additional things. That's pretty good value. The expectations must be reasonable when it comes to food served on a boat. For that price it is impossible to provide a 5-star deluxe dinner. The food was prepared by a restaurant "on land" and loaded onto the boat. If you consider all that, I think they did an excellent job. But like Alex said, it is impossible to please everyone.

I for one am extremely grateful as he is doing an amazing job for our group. We should all be just as grateful. Markus is handing us this trip on a silver platter.

PARKING NORTH YORK LOCATION: I have received contradictory information from various people regarding the parking situation at the garage under the North York Library (this was the cheapest solution I had found).
I was just informed by one person that they might no longer allow overnight parking, which is strange because it is advertised as 24/7 garage and the Novotel hotel guests park there too.
In order to avoid any problems (tickets, etc.), I recommend that you do not use that garage.
My suggestion for parking in that area is the Green-P Parking Lot at 180 Beecroft Road. Overnight parking is definitely possible there.
We will try our best to have the bus stop right in front of that parking lot or as close as possible, on Beecroft Road.
It is, of course, the responsibility of each participant to find and select their parking spot.
I am just trying to assist you by providing you with information based on my research.

The cruise is also casual as mentioned in the program.
Please keep in mind that this is just a simple lake cruise boat - not a luxury ocean cruise ship.
Of course, it is totally okay to dress up a little bit in the evening for the cruise, if you want to - but definitely not at all a formal event.
Again, wear whatever feels good to you.
Remember that we're out on the lake at night and it might get a little cool towards the end of the evening. So, maybe a light jacket or sweater might be a good idea.
But it will all depend on the weather and the temperatures. I cannot predict that.
There are several decks/levels on the boat.
One is reserved for the dinner, the upper deck is where the band and the dancing will take place. And there are also outside deck areas to enjoy the view.
Since you might have to go up and down a bunch of stairs, I recommend to the ladies to maybe not wear the craziest high-heels. Totally up to you though. Not a rule just a suggestion.

OMG wear what's comfortable...they're very casual in the 1000 Islands. Definitely bring a jacket, sweater or shawl as the evenings ARE COOL the end of August as the sun sets earlier. You are in for a real treat...bring your cameras & pray for nice weather

"Dress code" for the trip. Well, first of all there is NO dress code. This is a casual little weekend trip. Some people are expecting me to send them a detailed, itemized list of what exactly to pack. Come on, people! We are all adults here. We're not going on 2-week safari in the jungle or climbing Mount Everest. We are just going on a little ride to the other end of the lake. No special equipment required. LOL!
I believe the itinerary outlines very clearly what kind of events and activities will be in the program for those 2 days. We will be on the bus for a few hours each day, spend a couple of hours on the beach, 3 hours on the boat cruise and some time exploring Kingston. Bring whatever you feel comfortable wearing for these 2 days. Check the weather forecast the day before and bring appropriate clothing for temperatures and weather conditions. Bring comfortable, casual clothing, sunscreen, hat, camera, tooth brush, a big smile and a positive attitude.

The final itinerary and trip information package was e-mailed to all participants a few days ago. I hope that everyone has had a chance to have a look at the information by now.
Please make sure you know where the pick-up locations are and when you must be at those locations to board the bus.
We will only be stopping for a few minutes and will not be able to wait for you. If you are late, the bus will leave without you.
It is very important that I know that everybody has received the information package. So far, less than half the participants have replied.
PLEASE TAKE A MINUTE TO READ THE INFORMATION I SENT YOU - AND CONFIRM WITH A QUICK MESSAGE THAT YOU HAVE RECEIVED THE TRIP INFO PACKAGE.
    Thank You!

Hi Folks! This is it... the final itinerary and lots of other useful information were e-mailed to all participants this morning. I would like to get a short confirmation message from everyone to let me know that you have received the information. It is very important that I know that you have the trip information and that you know when and where to meet on Saturday, 24 August.
If you did not receive the information package, please let me know as well and I will try to send you the information again.
Only 2 weeks till our big adventure begins.
Alex and I are very much looking forward to sharing a wonderful experience with all of you.

We are getting close to selling out the trip. It's going to be absolutely amazing. We're just a month away and I can hardly wait for this awesome adventure to begin.
We received several new bookings over the past few days and we are getting new requests daily now.
Therefore, as announced several times (incl. a week ago) we will now have to continue removing the unconfirmed names from the rsvp list to make room for the new (serious) requests that are coming in. Sorry folks! Nothing personal. LOL!
But some of these spaces have now been blocked for weeks without confirming and/or paying for the trip.
We can at this point only keep confirmed reservations on our list. If we removed your unconfirmed booking - you can get back on the list at any time by sending us your payment information. Thank you all for your understanding.
Members who have just recently rsvp'd will not be removed immediately. We will allow, of course, for a few days for you to confirm your booking.

Alex and I have a big favor to ask of our trip participants.
PLEASE allow a few more days for us to find the best solution regarding the Pick-Up location. We are working hard and spending a lot of time researching possible locations, making phone calls, visiting potential locations, etc.
As we explained before, we will most likely only be able to have ONE pick-up location for this trip. So, we are trying our best to make that one location as convenient as possible for everybody involved, whether you are travelling by TTC or car.
We are using our bus driver until very late at night on Saturday. There are strict rules in Ontario regarding how many hours a driver can be on duty. We will not jeopardize the safety of our participants by going beyond the max. allowed number of hours. I am sure that everyone will be okay with us looking out for their safety. We will let you know very soon what our meeting point will be. THANK YOU SO MUCH for your patience.

Thanks Wolf & Terri. Well said! I think -- until now -- everyone has been very understanding and has realized that we are trying our best to offer a good solution for all participants. It is not easy at all to organize and coordinate a trip for 50+ people, coming from all different areas. it's impossible to make everyone 100% happy, I guess. But (almost) all people are able and willing to adjust to the situation.

      3 · July 22, 2013

    • Terri

What we have learned is you can only do your best to cater to the majority. There will always be those who are not happy no matter what is offered and unfortunately those seem to have the loudest voices. Earplugs and loud music has always worked for us. Keep up the excellent work and hope to see you soon !!

    PARKING
Alex and I are working on finding affordable parking near the subway line. I believe Alex has a friend who might be able to offer some spots for the weekend at a good rate. We should be able to post an update shortly. Once we have further information, we will send out a msg to everyone to find out how many parking spaces we will need. I personally will have to go by car as well from Brampton and there are at least another 6 people coming from Brampton as well. There are also 2 people form Mississauga. So, we will definitely have to find a good solution for everyone. Maybe we could even try to arrange car pooling once we know exactly how many people will come by car.

I checked out the GO system and there's a bus that leaves from the GO terminal in Brampton that goes directly to York Mills Subway. It leaves around 8 am and takes about an hour to get there. Time enough to enjoy a coffee and croissant! :-) Here is the link: https://www.google.com...
