The Lilidots are a walking group for lesbian women and have been in existence for around 35 years. Our walks are based in Scotland although occasionally we head south or abroad. We have a website lilidots.weebly.com
The origin of the 'Lilidots' name came from euphemisms used in the 1950's to find out someone's sexual orientation. One was "does she like lilac wine?" which referred to the Elkie Brooks song and meant "Is she a lesbian?", the other is the more well known "friends of Dorothy" taken from the film The Wizard of Oz when Dorothy replies to a comment about her having some queer friends, she says "The queerness doesn't matter as long as they're friends."
If you like lilac wine, are a friend of Dorothy's and are interested in either low or high-level walking you are very welcome.
We like to vary our walks as much as possible throughout the year for all abilities, fitness or age. We have monthly walks on the last weekend of each month, except December when we meet a little earlier to avoid clashing with the Christmas and New Year holidays. Usually and if possible we head somewhere local for coffee and cake afterwards, before heading home.
Weekend trips are held 3 or 4 times a year dependent on volunteer organisers, this means we can travel a bit further. The accommodation we book varies although we usually use hostels, bunkhouses or mountaineering club huts.
If possible we share cars and the cost, let your organiser know if you need or can provide transport.
At the latter part of each year we hold a planning meeting to which everyone in the group is invited to organise the following years events. All suggestions are welcome and we encourage and support everyone to become an event organiser for either a walk or a trip.
We respect members who have allergies or a fear of dogs. Sorry, unless it is clearly stated as a Lilidoggies walk your pooch is not welcome.
To continue using and to pay the subscription costs of Meetup we will need to request a donation of a pound or two from you when you attend our walks.
Safety Notes: Please be aware that all attendees must be prepared to take full responsibility for themselves on all our walks. Event organisers/hosts will have a good idea of the route to be taken but they are not responsible for leading the group or your safety. If you can use a map and compass bring them with you. You will need walking boots, warm clothing even in summertime and waterproofs. Bring a packed lunch and snacks.
