Public dinner meeting of Lilith's Tribe in New York City. Our guest of honor will be Anya Kless, author of Lilith: Queen of the Desert, a Lilith devotional.
She will be bringing autographed copies of her book. She will briefly discuss the following topics with us:
How I met Lilith / starting working for Her The nature of my relationship with Her The rationale for writing the book / experience of putting it together Working with different aspects/faces of Lilith Working with Lilith in relation to other figures (i.e. Samael, etc, as well as those outside Her pantheon) Her book Lilith: Queen of the Desert combines historical, practical, and devotional material on Lilith. It gives an overview of Her presence in the writings, lore, and imaginations of a variety of cultures from ancient Sumerian to present day vampirism. It provides an introduction to forming a personal and working relationship with Lilith as a living and vibrant entity, including correspondences, lessons, offerings, and a basic ritual. Most importantly, it serves as the first collection of devotional writing for and about Lilith. Contributed by writers around the globe, these poems, prayers, and essays give insights into the mysteries of this elusive and often misunderstood figure by those who already know and love Her.
She has provided the following bio:
Anya Kless has served as a devotee and priestess of Lilith for several years. She is also active in the east coast Northern Tradition community and has relationships with several Norse gods, particularly Odin and Loki. She enjoys the overlap of spiritual and kink communities, where she acts as a priestess, diviner, healer, counselor, and ordeal master. Her writing can be found at her Wordpress blog “The Fruit of Pain,” as well as at the online journals “Blood for the Divine” and “The Gods' Mouths.” She lives, writes, and practices in New York City. The exact meeting format is in process of being decided -- please share your own thoughts about it in the message board thread on Another, simpler proposed meeting format -- is this one better? (http://www.meetup.com/Lilith-NYC/messages/boards/thread/10570894/). The "discussion of main topic" will be, of course, Anya's presentation, which will include several pauses for questions and answers. There will be time for informal socializing before and after the meeting.
The meeting will begin promptly at 7:30 PM. Please aim to arrive between 7:15 and 7:30. The meeting is expected to last until at least 10:00 PM.
This meeting is at one of the best diners in Manhattan, on 34th Street near 9th Avenue, approximately one block west of Penn Station. (The exact address, and other details, will be visible to you once you join this Meetup group.) The nearest subway stop is 34th Street on the A, C, and E lines (8th Avenue).
Ask a waiter for "Lilith's Tribe in New York City."
We'll be at a table in the BACK part of the diner. There will be a piece of paper on the table with the name of our group or at least the name "Lilith" in large letters.
Although the diner has no official minimum order, please plan to spend at least $5 on food or drink, so that the place will continue to welcome our business.
If you would like to suggest other venues for future discussion meetings, please post them on our message board, in the thread "Venue suggestions: discussion meetings (http://www.meetup.com/Lilith-NYC/messages/boards/thread/8423749)." Please also read that entire thread before you post your suggestions, so you'll know what our requirements are.
Although this meeting is on a Thursday, future meetings might be scheduled for a different day of the week. Please post your scheduling requirements, for future meetings, in the thread "Convenient meeting times? What days/times are good and bad for you? (http://www.meetup.com/Lilith-NYC/messages/boards/thread/8407813)" on our message board.
