    This event was canceled.
  • Lilith in today's world (dinner meeting of Lilith's Tribe in NYC)
We'll talk about the many different modern religions, social movements, and subcultures in which Lilith may be honored. As part of our discussion, we'll aim to dispel popular misconceptions about the more controversial subcultures. Religions and spiritual paths in which Lilith is honored by some (by no means all) adherents include: Liberal Judaism (e.g. the magazine Lilith (http://lilith.org/)) Wicca and some other branches of the modern Pagan movement Satanism Left Hand Path ceremonial magick involving the Qabalistic Qlippoth Other modern social movements and subcultures in which Lilith is honored by some people include: Feminism Women musicians (e.g. the Lilith Fair (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lilith_Fair)) The LGBT (lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender) community The BDSM community The Vampire community (Formerly, this meeting was going to be the pre-ritual meeting for a ritual next week Friday (http://www.meetup.com/Lilith-NYC/events/107902582/), to be led by Anya Kless, who led our rituals in 2012 and is the author of Lilith: Queen of the Desert (http://www.lulu.com/shop/anya-kless/lilith-queen-of-the-desert/paperback/product-11783698.html). Anya has had to cancel the ritual due to a family emergency. The ritual will be re-scheduled as soon as Anya knows what her schedule will be. In the meantime, this week's dinner meeting has NOT been canceled, but its topic has been changed.) PLEASE NOTE: WE WILL BE MEETING AT A NEW LOCATION. Please plan to arrive between 6:45 and 7:00 PM. The most important parts of this pre-ritual dinner meeting will be finished by 9:00 PM. Those who can stay later are then welcome to hang around for a more informal discussion, on whatever spiritual, occult, or other Lilith-related topics people want to talk about, until 10:00 PM. We meet at a diner on West 23rd Street in Manhattan. (The exact address, and other details, will be visible to you once you join this Meetup group -- or log in to Meetup, if you are already a member.) The nearest subway stop is 23rd Street on the 1 line (7th Avenue). We are also within walking distance of the 6th Avenue (F,M) and 8th Avenue (C,E) subways, the 23rd Street PATH station, and Penn Station. Please plan to spend at least $5 on food or drink, to help us maintain a good relationship with the diner. NOTE: Attending a dinner meeting (pre-ritual or otherwise) is required for all new members before they can attend a ritual. All other members are encouraged but not required to attend pre-ritual meetings, so as to understand our rituals better. Attendance at a pre-ritual meeting, by all who attend the ritual, is more strongly encouraged this year than last year, due to the greater variety of ritual styles this year and the variety of spiritual paths that these ritual styles will (we hope) represent.

  • Satanic ritual to Lilith
Lilith is the demoness of the night, the seductress of the pit. She is a figure of power and individuality to both women and men. Come and celebrate Her darker side. This year, Lilith's Tribe aims to hold a variety of rituals, led by a variety of people of different spiritual paths, all honoring Lilith in one way or another. The March ritual will be a Satanic ritual to Lilith, performed by Kat Mon Dieu (http://www.meetup.com/Lilith-NYC/members/6824320/), Preston K. (http://www.meetup.com/Lilith-NYC/members/33063552/), Lucien DeVille (http://www.meetup.com/Lilith-NYC/members/51590112/), Elvis V (http://www.meetup.com/Lilith-NYC/members/19165681/)., and the Church of the Spitting Devil (a legally established Satanic church headed by Lucien Deville). Ritual masks and robes are encouraged, but both are optional. Please bring a $5 donation toward the cost of space rental. Ritual will begin promptly at 4:30 PM. Please try to arrive between 3:50 and 4:15 PM. No late entry permitted after 4:30. After the ritual ends, at approximately 5:30 PM, those who want to can hang out together at a nearby diner. Important notes: New members must attend a discussion meeting, such as our March 20 pre-ritual meeting (http://www.meetup.com/Lilith-NYC/events/106440952/), before attending a ritual. Returning members are encouraged but not required to attend informal meetings. The location of this ritual will be revealed only to people who have attended a recent prior event.. Therefore, please RSVP at keast two days before the ritual to ensure that we have enough time to (a) verify your eligibility to attend and then (b) email you the location of the ritual. NEW LOCATION: This ritual will not be held at the same location as last year's rituals. Therefore, returning members as well as new members should RSVP at keast two days before the ritual to ensure that we have enough time to (a) verify your eligibility to attend and then (b) email you the location of the ritual. The date of this month's ritual is only three days after the pre-ritual meeting, rather than the usual nine days. Although Kat Mon Dieu is a burlesque performer, this ritual will NOT be a burlesque show -- it will be a serious ritual to Lilith. Reminder: Please see the rules of conduct for our rituals (http://www.meetup.com/Lilith-NYC/pages/Ritual_Rules/) before attending.

  • Lilith's Tribe as a community (discussion meeting over dinner)
One of the aims of Lilith's Tribe NYC is to create a sense of community among people of many different paths who are drawn to Lilith. But what does this mean? What does "community" mean to each of us, and how can we best achieve this aim in a group of very diverse individuals? What kind of "community," if any, would you like to be part of, both ideally and in terms of what you think is practical? Let's share our ideas and feelings. A portion of the meeting will be devoted to planning our rituals and other group activities for the remainder of this year. We'll also discuss other aspects of what "community" means and how we can bring it about. Please plan to spend at least $5 on food or drink, to help us maintain a good relationship with the diner.

  • Lilith's Tribe @ Pagan Pride Day
We will have a table at Pagan Pride (http://www.nyc-ppp.org/) to give out information and attract new members to the group. If you're interested in keeping Anya company at the table, please RSVP! It's also great to message her (http://www.meetup.com/Lilith-NYC/message/?recipientId=13306917) and let her know when you'll be there. Although the festival itself runs from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, our table will need to be there from no later than 10:30 AM (to allow for set-up time) to 5:30 PM (to allow for tear-down time). We don't need everyone to be there for the full stretch of time, but it would be especially helpful to have at least a few people who can be there starting at 10:30 AM, or who can stay until 5:30 PM.
