More about the event: the goals of this year’s Eliminate Hunger event are to raise funds to directly support the programs and services of Lakeview Pantry, increase awareness about hunger and poverty in Chicago, and invite new volunteers to join Lakeview Pantry. Last year’s inaugural Young Leaders Board event raised $26,000 and helped Lakeview Pantry distribute 1.5 million pounds of food and support 12,000 people in need. This year’s event is set to raise even more funds to support the growth of the Pantry in Chicago’s Lakeview neighborhood.

More about Lakeview Pantry: Lakeview Pantry is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that was founded in 1970. It is the largest food pantry in Chicago, defined by number of clients served and annual operating budget. Our mission is to eliminate hunger in our community by: providing food to fulfill a basic need of hungry people; increasing the independence of our clients through self-help initiatives and other innovative programs; and raising awareness of hunger & poverty and working towards solutions to eliminate them. In January 2012, we launched our Education & Advocacy Program to address the third pillar of our mission. This program promotes effective policy initiatives, fostering collaborations with local community-based organizations, an educational research center on poverty & hunger, a policy center, and publications & media outreach.
