KDE SC is the KDE Software Collection. A graphical user interface and desktop environment for Linux and other operating systems, KDE has become a slick, configurable interface for the Linux enthusiast.

Orv Beach will present an overview of KDE and demonstrate some of its really cool features.

Orv Beach is a long-time geek; interested in radios at an early age, he switched to computers in the pre-PC era. His first computer had an 8-bit CPU, Kbytes of RAM and two 8-inch floppy drives.

He's employed as a Linux system administrator for St. Jude Medical in Sylmar, a manufacturer of pacemakers. He works in a group of seven sysadmins that manage over 2,000 Unix and Linux servers world wide.

He became interested in Linux in 1996, switched over to it full-time in 2000, and never looked back. His wife's computer runs Linux as does the computer his grandkids use.

Orv has been giving presentations on Linux and Open Source to PC clubs and other organizations for over 15 years. He's been involved with the Southern California Linux Expo since its inception and is currently the Training Chair for SCALE.
