Managing Design Teams with Mercedes-Benz.io

Details

Yes, management! That thing! You know it is important right? Especially because, if you are trying to accomplish something big, something great, you can’t do it alone, you really need a team. And the bigger the goal, the bigger the team. And the truth is, that teams need to be managed. They do. And most people, most organizations manage their design teams in a bad way. It is hard to figure out what is the best way to manage a team, and specially a design team. The design process is not linear and most managing methodologies are more suited for a linear workflow.

As usual, we will have 3 talks of 20 minutes each, by 3 different speakers that will offer you 3 different points of view in this matter and then we will have a Q&A session where you can ask your questions to the speakers, and to finish it off, we are going to do a small group exercise where we are going to try to collectively answer the big elephant in the room question of “How can I, as a Designer, be better managed?”.

First we will have Humar Santos ( https://www.linkedin.com/in/humar-santos/ ), Senior Product Designer at Nmbrs, a SaaS company that supplies HR / Payroll software aimed at providing employees with the best HR service. Humar is passionate for delivering excellent experiences to end users through digital products. He took a course of Multimedia, studied Design at IADE, and from the past 6 years, he has been working on multidisciplinary teams across diverse companies. Aiming to improve his design and make sure that the outcome would be as idealized, Humar developed the love for front-end technologies, mainly HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. His talk will be called: "We are different, not crazy".

Then we will have Bruno Domingos ( https://www.linkedin.com/in/bdomingos/ ), Lead Product Manager at Pipedrive. Bruno works as a Product Manager at Pipedrive since January 2018. Having a strong IT background he finds it very natural to work between Product and Engineering teams. Pipedrive is exactly where he thinks he should be, always willing to try new methodologies and techniques. Afterwork, he is an easy going person, that loves nature, music, food and Karate! You can also find him watching Benfica, photographing around, or simply planning his next trip! His talk is called “A Mission-driven Team”.

And to finish it off, we will have Sónia dos Reis ( https://www.linkedin.com/in/soniadosreis/ ), UX Designer at Mercedes-Benz.io. Sónia was born and raised in sunny Algarve, she studied Communication Design in Belas-Artes in Lisbon, and she has worked in a lot of places with different backgrounds (graphic design, motion, illustration, UX/UI) and is now at Mercedes-Benz.io for almost a year.
And also Nikolaus Kober ( https://www.linkedin.com/in/nikolauskober/ ), Head of Digital UX at Mercedes-Benz.io. Nikolaus was born and grew up in Stuttgart aka Benz-Town, he did a lot of different things in life and finally studied Advertising and he has been working for Mercedes-Benz since early 2014 and is one of the first employees of Mercedes-Benz.io.
Their talk is called “Design in a Corporate Self-Organization”

So let's talk about all of that, and let's get together once again next Monday, July 15th, starting at 18:30, at Museu das Comunicações, in Cais do Sodré, Lisbon. As usual, we will have some drinks and some snacks for you to relax after the workday and, most importantly, some interesting people for you to catch up with during the break. The event only really starts at 19:00 sharp, so we ask you to be there before that, from 18:30 onwards so that you can chill, eat, drink and network a little bit, before the start of the first talk.

As usual, if you are interested in learning about Managing Design Teams, please register as soon as you can because the spots are limited and they usually run out pretty quickly.

Stay cool and see you there! =)
