  • Haven House Service Project: Creating Order out of Chaos
The mission of Haven House Services (https://www.havenhousenc.org) is to help youth feel safe, supported, and successful. Donations such as clothing, hygiene items, food, and school supplies can help support a youth and their family who may be in crisis or are just struggling to make ends meet on a limited budget. Picture above was taken inside the offices at Haven House :-) PROJECT DETAILS: Volunteers will sort and organize donations from Haven House's two storage areas. Tasks will include: - moving boxes of clothing and hygiene items from two storage areas; - sorting donations; - reorganizing items in storage areas to be more accessible for staff; - some volunteers will need to be able to lift and carry 20-40 lb. boxes. I hope you can join me in supporting Haven House in the heroic work they are doing to help our youth reach their full potential.

  • Listen to Your Life: October 2018 Meetup
Nothing beats face-to-face connection and support to design and maintain a life of intention, meaning, mindfulness, resilience and well-being. That has been the purpose and vision for this Meetup group since 2009. And NO ONE will be turned away for lack of funds. Just come. My intention for the L2YL Meetup is to be a safe space for people of all backgrounds to come together to: (1) share insights/lessons on the path to living meaningful, abundant, mindful lives; (2) offer support to each other as we navigate the ups and downs of life; (3) be in service to our communities. At each monthly Meetup I share a teaching or practice that I’ve found useful in cultivating a life of love, meaning and authenticity. In addition, I will organize quarterly service projects so we can channel that collective energy in service to others. Format for our monthly L2YL Meetup is super casual. I’ll share a ~10min video (or passage from a book) featuring renowned teachers like Tara Brach, Jack Kornfield, angel Kyodo williams, Byron Katie, Jon Kabat-Zinn, Daniel Goldman, Pema Chodron, Ruth King, Rick Hanson, Tami Simon, Gina Sharpe, Sharon Salzberg, Kristen Neff among others; then we‘ll discuss how the teachings, practices and insights presented may apply to our own lives. There is nothing better than living life fully engaged, with clarity, mindfulness, and a sense of internal freedom in community with others. Join us. More about me at http://www.sharonshelton.com. I am deeply committed to Loving and living my best life, and helping others do the same.

  • 9-11 Evening Commemoration + Service Projects
As many of you know, my ex-husband was killed on 9-11 and this event has been a meaningful way to honor his memory. He was all about Service...a beautiful, humble, loving, giving, intelligent, strong, funny man. Hope you can join me to be in service and have some fun! I'll be at the Red Hat Amphitheater about 6pm. There will be a bunch of "stations" set up at the event so I'm not sure which one I'll be at but look for me! Details: Enjoy live music, participate in hands-on service projects, bring non-perishable items for an on-site food drive, and hear words from local community leaders and Activate Good as we conclude this community-wide day of service. Attending participants (SEE ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS BELOW) will have a choice of which service project to participate in based on 4-6 "service project stations" we'll have laid out throughout the amphitheater. All projects at these service project stations will be hands-on and kid-friendly. Participants will be free to move from station to station if they choose. As service project stations have limited seating and will be first-come, first-serve, we recommend groups who wish to stay together arrive a little early. Rain Plan: This event is rain or shine. Any changes to the location due to rain will be communicated via email to registered volunteers. Parking Info: Street parking and parking in downtown Raleigh decks is available. Check out http://www.godowntownraleigh.com/get-around/parking for parking options. ***PLEASE FOLLOW THESE ADDITIONAL INSTRUCTIONS TO CONFIRM YOUR ATTENDANCE: 1) Click the unique, exclusive “Project Invitation Link”: https://activategood.org/group/project/invite/ea0b6c1189d311e88b23f23c913e0c14 2) You will be prompted to either A) create an Activate Good volunteer account or B) log in to your existing Activate Good volunteer account. 3) Once signed in, you will automatically be redirected to confirm your sign up for our group’s project. You’re done! You can view your current volunteer sign ups at any time under the “My Volunteering -> My Opportunities” page found at the top of the webpage. Also if you like please bring donated food items to "Fill the Truck" for Urban Ministries of Wake County at the Commemoration: Canned beans, peanut butter, cereal, pasta, and rice are among top needs.

**NO ONE WILL BE TURNED AWAY FOR LACK OF FUNDS** Nothing beats face-to-face connection and support to design and maintain a life of intention, purpose, substance, joy and wholeness. That has been the purpose and vision for this Meetup since 2009: – Create a relaxing, safe space where we support each other in discovering our own wisdom in order to develop our authentic sense of self; – Enhance our capacity to live more powerfully, less fearfully, more intentionally to get more of what we want out of life. At each 60 minute monthly meeting, I’ll show a ~10min video by a world renowned teacher – e.g. Tara Brach, Jack Kornfield, Gina Sharpe, Byron Katie, Pema Chodron, Rick Hanson, Joseph Goldstein, Sharon Salzberg, Kristen Neff among others; then we will discuss how the teachings, practices and insights presented apply to our own life. There is nothing better than living life fully engaged, with clarity and a sense of internal freedom in community with others. Join us. More about me at http://www.sharonshelton.com .
