When I found out that Maid-Rite was coming to Chicago, I almost peed my pants in excitement. Seriously. (Those of who were lucky enough to have a Maid-Rite in your hometown will know exactly what I mean!) Even newbies become super-passionate about Maid-Rite after just one visit -- one guy on Yelp swears that their sandwiches will "change your life."

It's been thirty-odd years since I last had an Original Maid-Rite, that weirdly-delicious "loose meat" extravanza that made the Iowa-based restaurant chain famous since 1926. And although they've added some interesting new items to the menu since then (fried cheese curds, pulled pork, tenderloin sandwiches, etc.), it's still that original, perfectly seasoned sloppy-joe-without-the-sauce taste experience that I'm dying to share with you.

So join me at the spiffy new Maid-Rite diner -- Chicago's first! -- on Saturday, November 17th at 4:00 pm for a not-so-traditional spin on traditional down-home comfort food. Bring cash, your camera, and a friend or two -- you'll want to try everything on the menu.

There's no deposit required for this meetup, but please be accurate with your RSVP as our group size is limited. If you sign up but your plans change, please update your RSVP to "not going" so that someone on the waiting list can take your place.
