STAUNTON STATE PARK - DAVIS POND, CHASE MEADOW, HISTORIC CABIN TRAILS
Distance: Approx. 5 miles
Restrooms: There are restrooms at the parking lot/trailhead.
Walk Description: This is Colorado's newest state park, which opened to the public in 2013. We will start out by hiking the Davis Ponds trail, then take the Chase Meadow trail to the Historic Cabin trail, then loop back to the parking area via the Staunton Ranch trail. The trail is considered easy and has a moderate elevation gain. You should bring a hat, sunscreen, plenty of water, and snacks. The fee to get into Staunton State Park is $8, unless you have a State Park Pass. If interested, we could meet at the Fort Restaurant and carpool to Staunton State Park to save on the entrance fee. If anybody has another idea for a location to meet and carpool, please post a comment.
I have not walked this trail before, so it will be a first for me. I encourage anybody who has walked here previously to join us.
Dogs: Allowed on a leash. Please be sure your dog is well behaved and can handle the length of the walk. Dog owners must clean up pet excrement.
Important Note: This is a participate at your own risk event! Life is risky. I am not a professional guide. By signing up for this walk you acknowledge that you are solely responsible for your own safety.
Address/Directions: Do not park at the first parking area by the entrance/fee station. Instead continue up the road to the larger parking area on the right. We will meet in that parking lot. Across the street is the start of the trail for Davis Ponds trail.
