What we're about

First in hopefully an ongoing series of live music events taking place in our beautiful studio space in the Wellington West/Hintonburg area.

Florquestra Brasil Duo

An evening of highly danceable Brazilian world-folk and french lyrical poetry.

The Voice of your Skin in the Ear of my Palm is Florquestra Duo & Special Guests’ musical one-night-stand at Jamari’s cozy headquarters. A show of sun-kissed melody, harmony, rhythm and rhyme, a land between Rio, Cohen, Brassens and Bahia, where audible gold is extracted with voice and instrument from the celebrated mines of love, bossa nova, samba, baião, xote, samba-reggae, afoxé, marcha, folk, chanson… and more.

Florquestra is an exciting band of variable geometry, composed of musicians from Brazil, Chile, Romania and Canada. Between Brazilian rhythms and Parisian rhymes, Florquestra applies its very own brand of world-jazz to original compositions as well as to the work of revered bards such as Canada’s Leonard Cohen and France’s Georges Brassens (among other giants).

Florquestra spells Brazilian harmonic refinement, the fever of samba, the sensuality of bossa nova, the languors of xote, the tease and twists of the hiccuped forró, the delicate seismics of chorinho, the magmatic quiver of Andean percussion, the Montmartrian gab of yestercentury squeezeboxes, the blue embrace of jazz… and other manners of earth, water and light that find their way into a workshop full of laughing, weeping, talkative and dancey instruments used to produce this handmade music.

In duo archirecture, Florquestra is Regina Gomes Teixeira (vocals, percussion) and Leonard Constant (vocals, guitar). Their guests are Andrés Navarro (percussion), Jasmin Lalande (reeds, flute) and Keite Gularte (viola, violin).
