  • Come read and discuss spiritual poetry at the Spiritual Poetry Meetup December 17th at 4:00pm.  We share spiritual poetry, wisdom quotes, light refreshments, and the thoughts, feelings and insights inspired by the readings.  We'd love to hear from you what poem or insightful quote is meaningful to you - do you love Rilke, Hafiz, Mary Oliver, Rumi, Thich Nhat Hanh, Neruda, Hildegard of Bingen, Nâzım Hikmet, Mirabai, or...? - let's share these precious gifts and learn from each other as we join together to discuss and contemplate these beautiful invitations to what is higher and deeper.  We'll have people joining us from several meetup groups, and please feel free to bring your friends.

    You can come with something you pick ahead of time, or choose something from the many books we have on hand.  It's also fine to just relax and join us without choosing to read something.  If you'd like to find out more, the comments posted for each meetup include notes and lists of readings.

    All paths and views are welcome -- this  is an open and welcoming space where we meet and get to know others who share a love for spiritual poetry and wisdom quotes, and for that which connects us more deeply with spiritual life, regardless of spiritual path or personal history.  Getting together in this way allows us to communicate on a deeper level and truly meet each other.  Feel free to bring a small snack or finger food if you wish.  (P.S. For the poets among us, we are grateful to you for bringing your insights, but please understand this is a place where we read others' poems and wisdom quotes, not our own work.)

    We hope you can join us Saturday afternoon!

    “What I Read at Her Service” by Mary Oliver
    “I Am the Same Still” by Rainer Maria Rilke (translated by Doris – thank you for translating this for us!)
    “No Longer Thirsty” by Mirabai (translated by Robert Bly)

    Thank you to everyone for bringing your sincerity and heartfelt authenticity, and for being willing to explore and share the depths evoked by these readings. The readings took us so deep – thank you again.

    Here is a segment from the Alice Walker poem “Desire”:

    It seems impossible that desire
    can sometimes transform into devotion;
    but this has happened.
    And that is how I've survived:
    how the hole
    I carefully tended
    in the garden of my heart
    grew a heart
    to fill it.
