Dmitri Matheny's group, which thrilled Meetup members at an event last year, returns to the East Bay for a Berkeley Jazz School concert that's sure to be another crowd-pleaser. The band, on flugelhorn, bass, drums and tenor sax, will play a mix of original works, jazz classics, hard bop and standards from the Great American Songbook.
It looks to me as though it's the same band members as last year, with the possible exception of the drummer.
COST: $15 online ($12 for seniors and students). General admission. Buy your own tickets. (Since this is a small venue, I recommend buying in advance. Also, I think the ticket prices at the door are a few dollars more.)

PRE-SHOW DINNER OPTION: I'll aim for dinner reservations at 6:00 p.m.; I could probably accommodate a total of 8 people for dinner. As of Wednesday night, I have a total of 7 people for dinner. (If the Thai restaurant is full, there's a well-reviewed Vietnamese place nearby that will be my backup plan.) I'll send individual emails to diners before Saturday.
WHERE/WHEN TO MEET: If not joining me for dinner beforehand, look for me between 7:30 and 7:40 p.m. outside the street-level doors to the Jazz School. (The show starts at 8:00 p.m.)
HOW TO FIND ME: I'm WF, late 50s, five feet tall, with short auburn hair. I'll carry an off-white canvas shoulder bag that says Oakland Museum in big orange letters, and will send my cellphone number and more details to all RSVPers the night before the show.
TRANSIT: The Jazz School is located about a half-block from the downtown Berkeley BART station and is convenient to AC Transit bus stops on Shattuck and on University. There is a paid indoor parking lot down the block, and there is often street parking as you get away from Shattuck.
**ADDED NOTE; I'm going to cap the RSVP list for this event at around 18 or 20 people to keep things manageable.**
