Friday Nights at the de Young: Opening Night of Season 10 (http://deyoung.famsf.org/calendar/friday-nights-de-young-opening-night-season-10)
Friday Nights at the de Young are after-hours art "happenings" that include a mix of live music, dance and theater performances, film screenings, panel discussions, lectures, artist demonstrations, hands-on art activities, and exhibition tours… at no charge. Special art exhibits i.e., Georgia O'Keefe exhibit, will have an entry fee. Everyone should remember our meetups last year the de Young had the Club Foot Orchestra in Sep., and John Santos Sextet in July.
My favorite mix of music, art and free: The Silver Moon Big band with Cynthia Glinka will be playing swing music from the 1920's and 30's. Dance lessons from 6-6:30 and music from 6:30-8:30. I can't dance but I'll dance with anyone wearing a dress ;) or we could group dance.
From 5:30-6:00 we'll visit with the artist demonstrations.
From 8-8:45 we'll meet at the museum cafe for prix-fixe menu and specialty cocktails. This is the time to socialize because it's easier to talk and relax outside the music and exhibits. This is paired with a museum meetup group and they like to have fun, too.
