Sorry for the last minute posting, but continuing the training leading up to Cactus to Clouds, and now, Nine Peaks Challenge, I'm posting this hike. You do not have to participate in Cactus to Clouds, or, Nine Peaks challenge to sign up for this hike.
After the hike, we'll refuel with a nice dinner at the Baldy Lodge located in the Village.....YUMMY! And if you do not want to do the hike and still like to have dinner and/or a drink, come join us at the restaurant.
Baldy Bowl – Ski Hut Trail climbs 3,900 feet over 4.5 miles to the highest summit in the San Gabriel Mountains. The trails ascends the southwest side of the mountain and is the shortest route to the top that does not involve the use of a ski lift. Expect an aggressive climb for most of the hike rewarded by views over San Antonio Canyon. Halfway up the mountain, the trail passes a Sierra Club Ski Hut that makes a good resting point.
This hike is no joke! You must be an intermediate to advance hiker. No beginner hikers on this hike. To sign up for this hike, you must shoot me an email indicating your recent activities that have prepared you for this hike.
Meeting Location: We will meet at the Porta Potty at the trail head at 2:00p.. You will need an Adventure Pass to park your vehicle. Also, we may take the ski lift down, it will cost $10 if we do and can only be purchased at the restaurant at the top of the ski lifts. The ski lift drop-off area is a quarter-mile walk to our vehicles.
From the west, take the 210 East and exit on Baseline Rd. Go left on Baseline and make a right on Padua. Take Padua to Mt. Baldy Rd. and make a right. Go up Mt. Baldy Rd. through the town of Mt. Baldy. Take it all the way until the road curves left before arriving to the Ice House Canyon parking lot. Turn left at this curve and take the winding road about 2 1/2 miles to the Manker Flats gravel parking area along the road. From the east, take the 210 West and exit on Mountain Avenue. Go north, right on Mountain. It will veer around and curve to the left. At Mt. Baldy Rd. make a right. The directions are now the same as coming from the West.

Warning: Please be in hiking shape for this activity. If you cannot handle major elevation gains in a short distance and altitude, please do not RSVP for this activity. This is considered a strenuous hike.
