Lake Pickmere is a popular swim spot in Cheshire and home to one of the early (and only) battlegrounds of the River and Lake Swimming Association who challenged the local council when they tried to stop swimming here. Swimming in Pickmere is in a class of its own. The water is beautifully clear and not particularly cold. Approach is straight forward – there is parking space nearby close to Mere Lane and a large clean grassed shore. Entering the water is only from land owned by the parish council or a public footpath which runs along the shore. The slope is moderate but beware of large stones under the surface and of debris.
So we can meet at the Mere lane car park at 9am quickly introduce ourselves, change then enter the water for a nice refreshing swim. It would be nice to share a picnic somewhere close to the waters edge so please bring along some food and drink.
Please bring a couple of towels, a change of clothes and suitable clothing for swimming and walking.
If you are driving and have space in your car please let the group know in the comments. I have space for 3 passengers and am happy to have the company for the drive......
