Monday Poetry Prompt - October 22, 2012

From: Pamela

Good Monday morning! For today's prompt, let's write about something we've seen or experienced that was totally unexpected. Here's a poem I wrote for a friend that fits the theme:

~For Jim

I thought I would have climbed Everest by now,
crushed burning embers under my soles,
glimpsed Victoria Falls from a bungee cord rebound.

My wildest dreams did not include three sons,
two failed marriages, and a government job–
a comfortable life by any standard except my own.

I tool along now, amazed by the normal,
content with the everyday moments
of life less complicated.

Feel free to post your poems to the message board under the topic, "Monday Poetry Prompt - October 22, 2012" or to the Living Poetry Facebook page. As is our practice, I will delete the message thread next week.
