Wimbledon Common Walk for Freedom and Creatures of the Night Safari

This year the Wimbledon Common Walk for Freedom will be a little different. We will be meeting in the evening and discover the wildlife on Wimbledon Common. There are different bat species, birds of prey, owls, foxes, rabbits, badgers and more. Before we set off our bat expert will give a short talk about the different bats we are likely to see and the other wildlife on the Common, she will also have a bat detector which will make spotting them much easier.

This year's walk will be approximately 3 miles but we will be stopping frequently, so it is likely to take as long as the 5 mile walk would usually take. Although shorter it will be a harder walk as we will be walking in the dark on Wimbledon Common, so absolutely worth the sponsorship.

The suggested minimum sponsorship for this walk is £25, which will all go to the animals we all care about so much.

The registration fee of £10 will cover our expenses.

As places are strictly limited on this walk due to health and safety we strongly advise to register in advance. You can register and pay by paypal here on meetup or contact us by email (just click on "contact us" in the left hand column). Please note that places can only be guaranteed once payment has been received or we have written confirmation that you will be attending and paying on the day. Due to the limited number of places available an RSVP without further contact or registration fee cannot guarantee a place.

You will be getting this with your confirmation email as well when you register, but it can't be mentioned too often: As we will be walking in the dark on uneven terrain, please ensure you wear sturdy footwear and please bring waterproofs and a torch, a head torch would be best.

Well behaved dogs are very welcome but as we are looking for other wildlife as well as bats we would ask for them to be kept on a lead. As the animals on the common are used to dogs they won't be put off by their presence.

I think you're right Mary but hopefully there will be a support group near you soon. If you are still contactable via meetup although you've left the group I will let you know when there is one even if they don't have a meetup group

I think I actually live to far from your group,so I think its sensible to no longer be in this meetup group, maybe someone will start a similar group where I live
