Discussion about AI in Customer Service

A discussion around AI applications in Customer Service. A machine should be better at working with Customers than a human however the typical experience is  that a lot of automated customer service is slow, frustrating and just something you have to live with.

We can do better with the application of AI!

Steve Worswick - Chatbot expert and winner of the 2013 Loebner prize, the Turing test for AI in chatbots with his chat bot: He has worked on AI chatbots for many years . Read about Steve and the Loebner prize here:

Lindsay Smith - CTO at Telrock.  We are re-imagining customer service with AI and how to humanise customer service by using machines.

I'd welcome anyone who wanted to do a short talk, especially on projects you are working on. After the talks there will be a Reddit style AMA (Ask me anything) panel discussion with pizza and beer.

Hi all, at this Meetup, the topic of a chatbot being used to deceased relatives was raised.. I came across this today

It's not the first use case that comes to my mind! Really - mimic dead people, like some sort of spiritualist medium?

This idea is explored in the recent novel "Memories with Maya" by Clyde Dsouza. The book's intended audience probably spend more time in night clubs than I do, but I still found it an interesting read. The author works in a related field (immersive 3D movie making) in his professional life. See

I liked the discussion of today very much. All what I listened was very interesting. I hope to listen more about that, and to see other meetings like that.

This was a fascinating discussion. Well done to Lindsay for organising it, and for his well-judged intro slides, and to Steve for being such an engaging speaker.

I was just was at a CTO meetup and the group discussion was the best part. There's likely to be some no shows of the 20 odd people so if we are small group enough we can have a kitchen table style discussion.

I invited Tim Harford - but he can't make it. He wrote this article

Article captures the zeitgeist of AI and robots.

Same day as Hacker News and the NeoJ meetup so not the most awesome timing :-( I'll be more tactical with the timing next time.
