COMPULSORY Q (no membership if not answered): Pls describe yr position on religion/faith e.g. atheist, naturalist, 'agnostic', religious doubter, religious, OR any description that best describes you. (Not to label you, just to know group make-up)

I am a non believer and maintain that view until supplied with any evidence to the contrary. As yet

COMPULSORY Q: Why do you want to join? (if faith/religion bothers you, what aspects in particular? (Helps us tailor activities to your concerns (within our remit of "peacefully promote reason/atheism")). Pls write as much or as little as you like.

I would like to join as it's a subject that interests me. I want to discuss issues without being accused of insulting, offending or any other kind of phobia. I would also like to develop the debating skills of Hitchen's, the Scientific wisdom of Dawkin's, the logic of Harris and the humour of Bill Maher...... now that really would be a miracle.

Where did you hear about us?

By searching internet and following links.

(You're welcome as a social or even a silent member, & there's absolutely no pressure - but would you want to be involved (at some stage) in actively challenging faith in any way? Petitions, leafleting etc, or something else?

I would rather be a silent member at this stage.

If so, what kind of issues are most emotive for you? What kind of activism do you prefer - humourous/cheeky or more direct? Any other ideas you'd like to share at the moment?

I think that good natured humour and scepticism backed up by knowledge, information and an effective forum is a good start.

Introduction

Hello, I am a long term non believer. Over the last few years I have taken a greater interest in the issue of faith and religion. The opportunities to discuss and learn are sometimes limited, hence me joining this group.

What Eric is saying about this Meetup Group

Definitely an interesting group of people with strongly held beliefs. Very stimulating discussions and opinions. My only concern was the risk of "People's Popular front of Judea" syndrome. Did not hear a great deal of information on the tactics / strategy for engaging with the religious. However, it's early days and look forward to future meetings.
