What we're about
Deep Dive Waves is a weekly 5Rhythms® dance class held every Saturday in London. It is two hours of movement practise, accompanied by music, where there are no steps to learn and there is no right or wrong way to move.
It is open to everyone, regardless of age, size and physical ability. Beginners are as much welcome as experienced dancers. There are no prerequisites, you simply show up however you are and you turn it into dance. What you need is comfortable clothes to wear that you can move in easily and bring a bottle of water.
There is a structure, 'a map' of 5Rhythms®, but there is lots of freedom to it. The main invitation is just to move, to follow your own body, looking for your own unique way of moving.
Gabrielle Roth, the founder of 5Rhythms believed that everybody who has a body is a dancer. The practice is designed to help to awaken this dancer within each of us. It is about freeing the body, calming the mind and becoming more alive. By shaking off the emotional baggage accumulated in our bodies, releasing the tensions, we create for ourselves the opportunity to access our deeper, wider, more creative and fascinating inner self. By letting go through our dance unexpressed emotions we make a space for more joy and peace within.
The class consists of two parts. We usually dance two 5Rhythms 'waves'. The first hour is dedicated to warm up, the second one is a deepening of the journey, often with a given subject/ theme to explore, with the choice to follow it or drop it.
The 5Rhythms® wave consists of a sequence of 5 different rhythms, where you are invited to look for different qualities in your movement. The 5Rhythms are: Flowing (fluid and circular, earthy), Staccato (sharp and clear), Chaos (loose and shaky), Lyrical (light and effortless) and Stillness (spacious and tender). Each of the rhythms is a great teacher and links to different aspects of our life.
The beauty of this practice is that is very organic and natural. We dance how we live, we bring "our every day us" to the dance and then we take the impact of the dance back to our lives. It is a beautiful process of finding more about ourselves and feeling more at home within our bodies.
Ewelina Jendrzejczak started her journey with the 5Rhythms® in 2000 and qualified as a accredited teacher of this practice in 2014.
