Birthday Picnic and Eurolympics

  • Aug 3, 2014 · 3:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

London European Club is four years old and growing from strength to strength. This picnic will be marking our birthday and all members are welcome! Instead of birthday presents we'd appreciate a voluntary donation to the European Club to cover the costs for organising the picnic.

If you want to attend please bring food and some drinks which we will share between us, just as we did last year. Please do not bring too much food and please clear the rubbish before you leave!!!!

EUROLYMPICS

Feeling competitive?!? You better be, because there are great awards waiting to be won. But before you win anything you have to run, scramble, hop and possibly even wrestle.  All in good fun and on a voluntary basis of course.

We will have:-

• sack (not sex) race
• egg & spoon race
• tug of war
• gender balanced three-legged race
• Mini-marathon
• 50m sprinter race
• Slow bike race (organized by Andy)
• Petanque competition (organized by Mehdi)
• and anything else we can think of, so bring frisbees, badminton rackets, balls, hula hoops...

Penny will organize:

• a stretching competition and
a Wheelers' race: one lap of nearby Lincoln Inn's field square (prizes are yoga, pilates and indoor cycling vouchers kindly offered by Cadence Cycling).

You can race the Wheelers race on anything with wheels which doesn't have an engine, including your bike, a skateboard, a Boris bike, your rollerblades, sitting on your Samsonite suitcase (!), on a wheelbarrow (!!)....

A special prize will be assigned for racing on the most funny vehicle, so be creative!

The egg and spoon race is not as easy as you think so start practicing well before the picnic date.

We need strong men for the tug of war!

And strong (willed) women!

Practice to run as fast as you can and to jump as high as you can!

The gender balanced three legged race will bring you closer to your fellow Europeans.

THE VENUE

Red Lion Square Gardens is an open Gardens situated on Red Lion Square.  There is a small cafe which is open 7 days per week.  There is nearby Conway Hall and a pub when nature calls.

Closest tube is Holborn, which is on the Central and Piccadilly Line.  Come out of Holborn tube station.  You will be on the junction of Kingsway/High Holborn.  Turn right into High Holborn, pass Krispy Kreme and when you come to a T-junction where a building spans across the road, cross High Holborn and walk under the building up Procter Street (Gym Box on the right).  You will come to a pub called The Square Pig and the Gardens are just across the road from the pub.  Walk from Holborn tube to the Gardens is about 2 minutes. We'll mark our picnic spot with some blue and yellow balloons, you can bring along some more if you want to.

This event is not limited in numbers and is a perfect opportunity to meet a lot of Europeans.

Don't forget to stretch......you may just win a special prize!

Only RSVP YES if you are certain that you can come to this event. London European Club is run by dedicated volunteers, who aside from being gorgeous and very clever don't have time to waste with people who don't show up at events.  If you don't show up to three events that you have RSVPed to, you will be banned from the Club.  Changing your RSVP in the last 24 hours prior to the event is strongly discouraged and may result in an immediate ban.
