Here is a film to lift the wintry gloom, a "boisterous comedy" directed by Fatih Akin, director of the stunning Head On (which some of us saw last year) and The Edge of Heaven.

Zinos is the owner of Soul Kitchen, a bistro that has become one of Hamburg’s most successful restaurants. But this happiness doesn’t last long; his girlfriend finds herself a new lover and breaks up with him, while his brother Illias, who has just been promoted to manager of Soul Kitchen, gambles the restaurant away. All seems lost until Zinos discovers new love and a chance to win back Soul Kitchen.

Soul Kitchen, made in 2009, is showing as part of the German New Wave festival. It stars Birol Ünel from Head On, Adam Bousdoukos and Moritz Bleibtreu. It is in German and Greek with English subtitles.

Tickets are just £6 and can be booked online here:

The film screens at 6.15 pm upstairs at the Ciné Lumière at the Institut Français. Because of the early timing we will not meet before - go straight into the cinema. We will meet afterwards in the ground floor café, Le Bistrot, for a drink and a chat.

I will send my mobile to those who RSVP.

Please note: London European Club has a "no show" policy which applies to every event including this one. This is because all organisers are busy individuals who volunteer their time and don't want to waste it on people who don't show up at events. Do not become a "former member": please RSVP accurately.
