Walk length 4 miles/6.4 km approx. Circular.
Hampstead Heath is a gem in the urban expanse of London. Hampstead became popular in the 18th Century as a springwater spa and the Heath is a mixture of woodland, ponds, open grassland and has great views over the city.
Some of the features we will try to see will be Parliament Hill, with its great views over the city and a walk past Kenwood House a stately home dating back to the 17th Century. We will also try to visit one of the oldest pubs in London 'The Spaniards' visited by Keats and Dickens.
Meet outside Hampstead Station from 1pm for the walk to start at 1.15pm. This is a circular walk and we will finish back at Hampstead Station. See Transport for London (http://www.tfl.gov.uk/)
Please keep your 'RSVP' updated for this event as it would help me get accurate numbers, and determine who is turning up for the walk; my phone number is Colin[masked].
The walk should finish at about 5.00pm including a pub stop, however the time may be earlier or later than this depending on the weather and pace (we have a relaxed pace which includes sightseeing and photography).
Weather: Updates will be posted; see also BBC Weather (http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/)
Please see our weather policy (http://www.meetup.com/London-Explorers/pages/Weather/)
Walking Safety: Walking is a great way to keep fit and generally very safe; however it does contain an element of risk.
