Untangling the intangible: exploring how Intellectual Property Rights can help your business grow and prosper

Intellectual Property Rights (IPRs) can be essential for protecting a creative idea, a memorable brand, or a great product. However, there is much confusion out there regarding what can be protected and how. This seminar puts the spotlight on the different types of IPRs and how they can be used to protect your business. With software-based businesses being at the heart of London’s fast expanding tech scene, this seminar focuses on protecting software including considerations regarding how copyright, which requires no registration, can help your business and how the master of all IPRs, patents, can be used to protect software in the UK, Europe and beyond. Finally, the seminar will provide guidance regarding how to develop a cost-effective worldwide IP strategy that puts your business in the best place as you start to consider expanding globally.

Kilburn & Strode understands the point where business, innovation and the law meet. Wholly dedicated to intellectual property, the firm is known for delivering practical, jargon-free advice that helps clients to protect and profit from their IP interests.

Nick Shipp, Associate Kilbrun & Strode, Patent Attorney, has a background in electronic engineering and specialises in providing patent advice for both hardware and software based inventions. A particular specialism of Nick’s is advising on global strategies for patenting business methods and computer-implemented inventions such as mobile phone apps. The various services that Nick is able to provide include patent drafting, patent prosecution, portfolio management, due diligence services such as infringement opinions, and global IP strategies. Nick deals with a range of clients from large blue-chip companies to SMEs and has a particular interest in assisting start-ups in understanding and protecting their IP.
