Shaun Smith on Individuals and Interactions

What patterns of behaviour do you see you in your organization?  Your team?  How are problems identified, created and resolved?

The agile manifesto favours Individuals and Interactions over Processes and Tools, yet much of the discussion within teams is stuck on the latter.

In this session, we'll be exploring models, exercises and techniques that help us understand how individuals and teams interact, be an effective change agent and build better teams and working environments.

Shaun Smith is an independent coach and consultant with nearly 20 years' experience in IT delivery.  Since the early 2000s, he has successfully practiced, coached and trained agile techniques with dozens of teams at companies both large and small.

Shaun was voted "Most Valuable Agile Player" at the 2012 UK Agile Awards.

I'm inspired by Shaun to put together a one day workshop on 'Coaching the Agile Coach', where we can look at the inter-personal aspects of the 'Coaching' role and explore in detail how communication styles and personalities impact a team's performance. An evening Meet-up won't do it justice as this is a fascinating area and one worth spending several hours diving deep into, so perhaps a Saturday will be best suited.

Let me know if you are interested...

I went to Nigel's workshop yesterday and it was superb. I was expecting a bunch of canned techniques so I was pleasantly surprised to find it a completely interactive and highly tailored experience. I would definitely recommend to anyone.

What Glenn said - I found it to be very useful in understanding why people behave/react the way they do in certain situations, and I'll use some of the learnings from the workshop to trial different approaches.

For the benefit of those who didn't attend, and in lieu of the slides, could someone post the topics/themes discussed? It would be greatly appreciated

Hi Dhaval, I have posted a link to the slides/topics above.

I'd like to echo what everyone else has said. A really thought provoking session A few people asked about further reading on the topic so it would be really great if you could also put up at some references and\or links

Managing the personalities in a scrum team is often trickier than implementing the processes, so this talk was really interesting, thanks Shaun!

Two books that will open your eyes regarding human interactions: "The structure of Magic II" Bandler and Grinder & "Monsters and magical sticks" Steven Heller and terry steel. Enjoy.
