Celebrating Women in Technology -
Creating Positive Role Models for Aspiring Women with Career Stories

To celebrate International Women’s Day in 2020 we are aiming to empower aspiring women in technology by providing career insights from our three senior women in tech - shining a light on those who have progressed to senior leadership through the career ladder in this industry.

This event will bring 3 successful women’s career stories to life on stage with their lightning career talks - sharing their ups, downs and learnings from their own career journeys, followed by a structured Q&A panel taking questions from the audience.

Event Timings:
6pm - Arrivals and networking (drinks and food provided)
6.30pm to 8pm - 3 lightning presentations from our speakers + Q&A
8pm onwards - Networking

Speaker 1: Pip Jamieson
Founder The Dots, Diversity Advocate & Sunday Times’ Top #100 Entrepreneurs

Pip Jamieson is the Founder & CEO of The Dots (https://the-dots.com), dubbed ˜The next LinkedIn?' by Forbes. The Dots is designed around the networking needs of 'No Collar' professionals - creators, freelancers and entrepreneurs. As routine jobs become more automated, these No Collar professionals will represent the future workforce.

Being a dyslexic sole female tech founder, Pip has put helping business build diverse teams at the heart of everything they do! 68% + of The Dots community is female, 31% + BAME & 16% + LGBT+. The Dots also do a lot of work around socioeconomic diversity and neurodiversity to fuel a more balanced industry of the future.

Speaker 2: Bernadette A. Carter
Senior Staff Software Engineer, Google

Bernadette A. Carter is the overarching tech lead of the Google My Business team at Google. Prior to this role, she transitioned Google+ into an enterprise-only product. She holds more than 40 patents.

In addition to innovation, she has a passion for encouraging others to pursue STEM-related (science, technology, engineering and math) fields. To that end, she has served as a TV-script adviser as part of Google’s CS in Media initiative, which aims to end damaging stereotypes associated with computer science. She is also an active member of /dev/color and enjoys mentoring the next generation of software engineers.

Speaker 3: Yasmin Borain
Creative Director of Experience Design at Publicis Sapient

Yasmin Borain is a creative leader with 15+ years of experience across experience design, innovation, design and storytelling.

In her current role as Creative Director of Experience Design at Publicis Sapient London, she leads teams and clients to tackle a broad range of strategic customer experience challenges across retail, finance, commercial, health-care, and luxury. Her projects have included retail strategies for Bang and Olufsen and M&S, new product development for SKY, digital transformation for Save the Children to vision work for Unilever.

Panel Moderator: Melanie Yencken
UX Design Lead @ Google

Melanie is the UX Lead and Manager of the Google my Business team across London, New York, San Francisco & Zurich. In her past roles she has built and led UX teams globally at Startups, Schibsted and eBay.

In her spare time Melanie is founder and coordinator of LondonTechLadies, a women’s network with 3800+ members. Melanie focuses LondonTechLadies events on soft skill development, striving to develop and inspire women to move up the career ladder and create more gender diversity in the upper levels of management.
