A relaxing day out at the "Pick Your Own" fruit and veg Parkside Farm (http://www.parksidefarmpyo.co.uk), Middlesex! Not only you get the freshest fruit, but it also tastes so much better if you’ve picked it yourself : )
Parkside farm (http://www.parksidefarmpyo.co.uk) has been a family business since 1938, and have started with Pick-Your-Own crops over 30 years ago (1979.). They are now growing about 20 different crops on some 50 acres!
It was voted the national ‘Pick-your own Farm of the Year’ 2011 by the National Farmers’ Retail & Markets Association (FARMA).
In July, we can expect to be picking strawberries, raspberries, blackcurrants, blackberries and plums!
Expected vegetable crops: courgettes, broad beans, French beans, spinach, onions and beetroot.
Meetup cost: There is no Meetup organisers fee for this event!
Please note, the farm has a minimum charge of £3 fruit/veg bought on the day. This in not an entrance fee, and most of us will be picking fruit & veg far in excess of £3.
Meetup date: Saturday 26th July 2014
Meetup time & place:
a) 10.30am at the entrance to the Parkside Farm, Hadley Road, Enfield, Middlesex, EN2 8LA
b) 10.00am at Gordon Hill train station, zone 5 . It is on the Letchworth to Moorgate line, and passes through Finsbury Park, which links up to the tube network.
We will then walk from the station to the farm (just over 1 mile), and meet with the rest of the group at the entrance.
Travelling by car: Parkside Farm is in Hadley Road, which runs between Chase Farm Hospital on the A 1005 (Enfield Ridgeway) and West Lodge Hotel on the A111 (Cockfosters Road)
What to bring:
- sensible footwear – the farm can be very muddy
- money for picked fruit & veg and any refreshments
- sandwich/picnic lunch
There is a shop on site selling cold drinks and ice-creams, but there’s no café to buy food. So bring your own picnic/sandwiches and we’ll find a nice spot on the farm to have a light lunch and enjoy some of our freshly picked fruit!
